Thanks everyone for your comments. It has been very hard this week. Even my husband has been in tears. I let her go because I knew she would be happier with another dog at the new home. That was wht she wanted.
We would dearly love an older dog as several of you have suggested. However, all the rescue centres are getting so many applications that it made us get a puppy.

I lost my spaniel last April and for at least six months we searched for an older dog. The centres had all been emptied of dogs.

Does anyone know of any rescue centres that might help. We live in Lincolnshire. I would like a doggy about five ish
years old. My last spaniel was a retired breeding dog and she was gorgeous.

Have you looked at somewhere like Spaniel aid? I do think their prices are a bit high for rehoming. Other breeds also have dedicated rescue sites. This might be better than a general rescue centre

I think that Tizliz 's suggestion is a good one, OP.
Time to start Googling.smile
Good luck! Hope you find your perfect new pet.

If you don’t have any cats a greyhound might be a good choice. My DS in Spain is involved with greyhound rescue and I was surprised at how gentle they are. They don’t really need masses of exercise although they look as though they do. He has three if his own, and frequently fosters another one who is waiting for adoption. There is a rescue centre in Boston.

Most of the breeds have rescue organisations, just google whateveryourbreed rescue. We looked at Beddlington Terrier rescue but they wanted a six foot fence all around the garden! I’ve just found this spanielaid.co.uk/available-dogs-2/ as you like spaniels. Best wishes for your search, it’s very exiting.
