Ddog ill

Ddog currently lying on sofa having been acutely sick twice, stumbling, shaking and with no energy. Luckily I have insurance and rang the vet nurse line. Very helpful person said it was an emergency and wonderful vet practice saw him within ten minutes. He was given (I think) some pain relief and something for inflamed stomach via two injections. I admit I was unable to take much in as so shocked by his sudden ill health. I appreciate I am OTT. If he worsens they will x ray him. He seems in less pain, shaking subsided and now asleep. I expect that is the pain relief kicking in. Sorry to be such a wuss. I just needed to tell someone. I admit I have overinvested in this boy. Very grateful for the care given so far.

Please if your dog has this bug that is sweeping the country ,do not take your dog out for a walk ,this bug spreads so easily , my old dogs have both caught it and thankfully recovered ,dogs really need to be kept in for about 5 days after they have stopped showing signs , to make sure they really are not going to infect other animals

Glad he is feeling better and up to his usual doggy mischief. Hope he will be fully recovered soon.

So pleased to read that he’s on the mend. ?
It’s so horrible when pets are ill.

Pretty tired but I don't usually sleep on the dining room floor next to Ddog. At three am my beautiful boy woke me with one of my shoes in his mouth and his "bring it on face". I believe he is on the mend. His posture is back to normal, he is able to move without apparent pain, is inquisitive and his tail is almost full speed. Currently asleep but he too had little sleep due to not being in his crate and his cat friend was in and out of house all night. I gave him half his usual breakfast plus the tablets he was given. I think the painkillers still
working. Obviously will monitor.
THANK YOU. I cannot say that enough. Happy Valentine's Day from Ddog and Dogs.x

Of course you weren't being OTT. It's just as worrying as any member of the family suddenly being taken ill.

SueDonim Sun 13-Feb-22 20:04:31

That’s good news, Dogs. I hope you all get a decent night’s sleep and everyone is better by morning!

So very happy to hear your lovely dog is on the mend dogsmakemesmile and thanks for the update.

If DD'S dogs had had a stomach upset she fed them pasta when they were feeling better.

I don't know if it's recommended but it seemed to work for them.

I do hope your lovely boy is soon better. Two years ago a doggy illness swept through our group of friends and over a month most of them caught it. Some were worse than others, like a bug going around a school. My dog didn’t even need a vet and was only ill for a couple of days.
Of course labradors are notorious scavengers.

Dogsmakemesmile Sun 13-Feb-22 18:48:53

Just did nannagarra

Nannagarra Sun 13-Feb-22 18:36:49

Poor boy. Will you give him a gentle stroke from me and tell him I hope he’s feeling much better tomorrow?
Labs. All dogs really. Love them. They make me smile too. x ?

Realise seems to be my go to verb. Apologies. Ddog has knocked my brains about...

Dogsmakemesmile Sun 13-Feb-22 18:10:12

Many, many thanks to everyone who has taken the time and care to post. I am so touched.
Ddog is still on sofa though has walked slowly round the garden and had two wees. Drinking water ok. Vet advised no food for 24 hours and he is showing no sign of hunger (a first in eight years! This boy hears me peel a banana !) The shaking has gone and he has wagged his tail a couple of times. Will see how he is in the morning. Neither DH nor I working so can spend all day with him.
I noted he seemed very quiet last night on his walk. Realise now he must have been coming down with this thing. He is my 0720 alarm clock but nothing this morning.
Realise how lucky I am to be able to access such good care. It was his distress and suddenness that shocked me.
Realise also what amazing people there are out there. Your support made today more bearable. I think ddog is the best dog in the world but also know that your dogs are the best too. Dogs x

I love labradors. I hope he is up and bouncing very soon.?

Scotsmum Sun 13-Feb-22 16:11:08

Completely understand how you can be so shocked - totally normal. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your DDog flowers

Acute sudden illness in a pet is such a worry isn’t it?

By the sound of it Ddog is up and comfy on the sofa sleeping, very likely exhausted but on the mend.

Have you got something very light and easy to digest for Ddogs first meal, if the vet advises food today ?

labazsisslowlygoingmad Sun 13-Feb-22 15:25:58

oh i am so sorry sending love and prayers

Oldbat1 Sun 13-Feb-22 15:19:59

So many dogs seem to have a similar type of bug currently. Even my vet neighbours own dog is poorly. When my dog had a similar virus vet prescribed Oralade and some paste. The Oralade keeps fluids up and you can buy from vet or online. Hope your dog feels better soon.

BlueBelle Sun 13-Feb-22 14:57:43

There were a lot of Fb posts in my area a few weeks ago about similar instances and now there are none so I guess it s moving around the country and has moved on from here People we’re blaming the beaches but I did read about it happening in wood Ed areas too
Labs are notorious for eating things too aren’t they
Fingers crossed he makes a full recovery

Iam64 Sun 13-Feb-22 14:42:43

That sounds a scary episode. Thank goodness for the emergency treatment. Hopefully, you’ll be less shocked and more able to ask questions and understand if they’ve a diagnosis .
How old is your bouncy lab x

GrannyLondon Sun 13-Feb-22 14:33:08

I’m so sorry to hear about your poorly dog. You are not being a wus at all.Our pets give us such a lot of happiness and we love and care for them in return.
I hope he continues to improve. ?

Maya1 Sun 13-Feb-22 14:10:09

Sorry to hear your boy is feeling so poorly, hopefully is now on the mend. A stomach bug can bring them down very quickly.
My dog is everything to me too, l don't know what l would done without him these past couple of years.
Of course you will be worried and upset, it is only natural. They give us unconditional love and support.
Please let us know how he is.
xx

Gwyneth Sun 13-Feb-22 14:05:16

Very upsetting dogsmakemesmile. I hope your dog is better soon. Good that you got him to the vet so quickly for treatment. As other posters have mentioned there do seem to be a lot of stomach bugs going around with dogs at the moment. Please keep us updated on his progress if you have time.

Dogsmakemesmile Sun 13-Feb-22 14:03:34

I am overwhelmed by your kindness. Thank you all for taking the time to post. Incredibly grateful.
I will update at tea time. He managed to go out and have a wee. Back on sofa.

Thoughts are with you. My dog has been my world throughout the pandemic. What makes it worse is that they can’t tell us how they’re feeling. This bug that’s going round sounds awful and this sort of thing seems to happen at this time of year. Keep us up to date with his progress x
