I am. All our cats and dogs have been rescues or have found us. Never t'other way round. I'd love to have a puppy once- but honestly, I just could not, knowing so many out there need good homes.

Our next dog will come from a long way away- Djerba. A friend found her and rescued her, and she is currently staying with a wonderful dog carer whilst all the vaccinations and passports are being done. Her name is Yata.

I know of 2 people who have rescued dogs and cats from Romania and both had major problems. The lady with the 2 cats had to have one euthanized due to advanced terminal cancer weeks after getting them.
My neighbour's dog was so terrified of walking on a road laid down on the pavement and refused to move. She had to carry it back into the house. Not easy for a v large dog. Took a lot of work to get it walking but several months later is fine now. People don't realise the horrific problems some poor animals from abroad can have. At least if you adopt from a reputable rescue in this country they are assessed properly now.

💞💞💞💞💞 the two of them are truly beautiful. Your dog and I have something in common...our hair colour 😁

Follow up ...... 9 days on.
When the pedigree pup from a breeder pays a flying getting to know you visit to the RSPCA rescued cat on his throne in the garage.
Who's in charge here?

Fleurpepper Mon 14-Nov-22 20:50:34

And of course, you can rescue pedigree cats and dogs too <3

Met the lovely lady who rescues Yata from shooters and stoners today. All is arranged and she will be arriving early March. She is being so well looked after by Lamia at the moment.

We can't save them all sadly. But if we all did, one or two at a time- it would make a huge difference. So many stuck in cages in refuges, with no hope. She will be our 5th rescue dog, and will be joining our 6th rescue cat.

Happy days ahead. Keep doing what you can do- you wonderful animal loving people. Thank you <3

Apparently it is a bit of fun, so why not. Either it is, or it is not.

He is very beautiful Joseanne.

Jose Anne, what a beauty. Best of luck with the introductions. My experience is cats are always top dog 😂

Joseanne Sat 12-Nov-22 14:32:13

Nearly 24 hours and I'm settling in nicely.
I've yet to meet that posh pedigree on the other side of the door, though I'm sure he's used to a bit of ruff behaviour despite his upmarket provenance!

^Yes, funny. Just depends on context, and who says it^
So OK for Grannybsgs to write it but despicable for me to fancy it as a (future) username?
Unbelievable.

So, as it seems it was all a bit of fun- I shall retract my comment, especially as I got author wrong. Apologies.

However, as it is just a bit of fun, let's say it would make a great new novel 'Dominant bitches on GN' - would make a great read, I am sure. All in jest, of course.

Back to wonderful rescue stories. Thank you so much all those who have posted in the spirit of this thread, about all those amazing happy tales and tails. x

And on with great stories.

Will be going to meet the amazing lady who rescued Yata from the shooters and stoners a couple of months ago. She is back here after a couple of months in Djerba, and we will discuss how Yata will be imported and then adopted into our family. I am so happy this will finally happen early next year.

Fleurpepper Fri 11-Nov-22 18:34:55

Oh dear, Iam64 - I could not agree more for your last sentence, If only, if only!

Iam64 Fri 11-Nov-22 18:27:39

Fleurpepper, I may of course be wrong but my impression is that you’re angry with Maw for reasons only you can understand. Your seemed angry with me for having the temerity to buy my current pair of dogs after 50 years of rescuing and fostering.
A little tolerance and avoidance of unnecessary conflict goes a long way

Said who?

Actually you did.

as for hashtag 'dominantbitch' it is despicable and you should be truly ashamed

Joseanne Fri 11-Nov-22 17:55:24

So, look who arrived this evening! I'm a fully fledged adopter now.
I have a "posh" pedigree dog and a "common or garden" rescue pussycat.
I shall love them both equally.

Maw, there was nothing wrong with your comment. Nothing at all.
My 4 year old tiny dominant bitch has just turned her face away from that enormous, over friendly lab. No question who dominates that relationship. Whispering quietly here - I need my wits about me or she sends messages to my brain ‘give that spaniel another treat - not Him, He doesn’t deserve it{

MawtheMerrier Mon 07-Nov-22 10:31:11

Remind me what was wrong with my comment to Grannybags following on from the vets remark -

you’ve just given me a brilliant idea for a new username

All of my pets have been rescued. All of them have repaid their rescue a thousand times over.

How lovely Joseanne - hope the adoption goes smoothly. Please post photos once you have got him/her.

Thank you. The RSPCA cat lady phoned and left a please phone back message yesterday while I was at dog school with DGD of all things! I'm glad I didn't answer with all the barking!!! I will ring her back in a bit.

grin I thought it was funny too Grannybags my husband would make entirely the same comment.
I think the alpha/dominant dog theory is now losing favour in dog training circles.

We have always taken in cats who needed new homes or were from a litter of kittens, but our last two "ladies" were from Cats Protection. The first was about 11 years old with a history of arthritis, for which she needed pricey medication, but she was worth it and gave us lots of fun and love for four years. We then acquired Molly, an older indoor cat (new to us) who loved to spend time by my side and was such a good pal. Sadly, she developed kidney failure this year and was put to sleep. Such a loss as one gets older oneself seems harder to bear somehow, so until now we have not taken on another cat, but who knows, we may do this in the New Year.

I've had many dogs over the years, both pedigree and rehomes, they've all been wonderful in their own ways. My current two are both rehomes, they came from different homes about a week apart. They are both pedigree Pugs and both came with all their paperwork and vet history. They adore each other and love everyone especially my 3 year old GS. Both were chipped and that paperwork came with them too. The female came via a fosterer because her owner had died and the male, only 9 months old and neutered they simply couldn't handle. Apparently he couldn't get on with the resident dog but came to us and although he was a bit stroppy to begin with soon settled and adjusted quite literally within a couple of days and became best mates with our resident male Staffie and resident female Pug, both now sadly departed.
