Any large dogs.
Good Morning 1st May 2026 "May Day"
Changing from a Manual car to an Automatic after driving manual for around 50 yrs
Ours will always be the beautiful German Shepard. Loyal. Loving. Protective, big bundle of fun! We have had many over the last 60 odd years. Always well trained! I do love the mini schnauzers although never owned one.
Any large dogs.
Another German Shepherd fan here. We had one because DH used to work abroad a lot and he was worried about me being at home on my own.
She was very protective, but so soft and loving, and when the children came along she knew her place in the pecking order had slipped, and accepted them unconditionally.
When we went for walks and could let her off lead, she was continually rounding us up, making sure we were all there - her herding instinct coming through.
We lost her at 12 years old, and just could not be replaced.
Get a dog, Mum, they said. It will get you out for healthy exercise, and will help you lose weight
Forgetting greyhounds sleep 23 hours a day, given the chance

Jack Russell terriers.
We have 3 at the moment.
They're wonderful, loyal , loving dogs . Energetic, crazy , robust and long living.
Not everyone loves them as they've a much undeserved reputation for aggression.
Our dogs have never been aggressive at all . Generations of JRTs have shared their lives with our children and now grandchildren and have been patient and tolerant with every single child
They're big dogs in small, dog's bodies. So much fun . They are noisy wee critters though. Love a good bark so if you're after a quiet dog look elsewhere!
They are absolutely fantastic little dogs . My very favourite!
Agree with Kitty with Schnauzer- medium-sized. I have never chosen a dog, and never will, but that would be the one, if ...
The Basset Hound!
Notoriously difficult to train, but the most loving, comical dog I have ever had.
I lost mine yesterday in 2014 - I do so miss him, his name was Compton Basset (named after a village in Wiltshire where I live) affectionally known as Tompty.
My daughter now has one who is just coming up to 1 year called Meredith, and a good friend of ours has Brian Basset, who qualified for Crufts (but got too excited when the Bloodhounds appeared and cocked it up! They also had a Bloodhound qualify, so suspect it was when his friend came by the ring!) Perhaps one day Meredith and Brian can have some baby Bassets, which as as cute as anything!

Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, my loveable clown and loyal best friend for 10 years
That was our original choice, but after visiting someone with a wheaten, we realised that for us, they needed too much grooming, which is why we have a Cairn.
Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, my loveable clown and loyal best friend for 10 years
I’m too old and not able to give a dog a good home any longer. Couldn’t take a dog for a walk let alone ………
Well I’ve just entering my 8th week of emergency fostering a relatives French Bulldog.
He spends what seems to be 23hours59minute per day asleep or watching tv with me.
He likes a run about but doesn’t need me to hold on a lead. Just stand there while he rushes around and around before coming back to stare at me grinning. Reverting to sleep for the next 6/8 hours. And, unlike my last dogs and the only cat I’ve ever had, doesn’t snore.
Spaniels, any type, but our current one is a cocker, so intelligent, loyal and mischievous, makes me laugh on a daily basis
In my experience of several dogs over my lifetime, the ones I have liked the most are cockapoos, so loving and intelligent. Velcro dogs though, can't be left alone. I loved all my dogs, including the big ones, small ones, rescues and challenging ones, but my little cockapoo is just perfect (and small enough to pick up, a great advantage as one ages).
Rescue dogs- my dog is a lab/ shepherd/ terrier mix and she is smart, loyal and adorable.
I do love all dogs though and as much as I will always rescue it is nice to keep the breeds alive too. We just need to get rid of the bad breeders and the puppy mills.
King Charles Cavaliers…wonderful dogs…great company and wonderful with the Grandchildren.
Dalmatians…..my Tuppence was a beautiful, happy dog. I do miss him.
Started with a border collie rescue girl. Since than we can’t have any other breed as we love their intelligence.
Golden retrievers
Big, cuddly, handsome, gentle - just lovely!
Cocker spaniel. He had heart attack age 10 and died at midnight at the vets, which he hated.
Lurchers, Border terriers, Beagles!!! Recently lost our last one, due to old age. Am lost without one. Rescues seem difficult to find! Advice please!
Thank you GranEd, we think so 😊
Don’t apologise Bluedaisy she’s gorgeous.!
Ooops sorry didn’t mean to put so many photos of her on here!
Bichon Frise and Maltese. We lost our beautiful little Maltese last July and was thinking after having dogs all my life that he’d be the last but saw a little Bichon girl needing a foster home so her previous foster family could go on holiday……well, she’s finally found her forever home by the looks of things, she arrived here last Thursday and has already found her way into DH heart so it looks like after 10 previous homes and flying here from a Shanghai kill shelter she’s now got a mummy & daddy and home of her own!
My dog is a cavapoochon, chosen specifically for the following reasons. 1) I wanted a really smart dog and she is super clever, large vocab and very quick on the uptake. 2) A loving dog and she is. She loves EVERYBODY as well as our cat and other dogs. Very sweet natured with little children 3) Doesn't need a lot of exercise but will run about playing fetch and ball games and agility games.
The downsides? She needs regular clipping which isn't cheap. Also, I wouldn't leave her alone for longer than 3 hours as she loves to be with people.
