My husband are I are viewing the most gorgeous chocolate Cocker Spaniel puppy tomorrow!!!
So exciting but also I’m so anxious about it! It feels as if I’m bringing home a new child ( which I am!)
We have both had dogs before but I just feel anxious- is this normal?
Any tips on having a brand new puppy? I feel overwhelmed with what to buy and all the info online!!
He is absolutely gorgeous and I am so extremely excited for our future together with our puppy ( I want to call him Woody!)

My whippet keeps having bouts of diahorrea so I excluded chicken from her diet for a while and then reintroduced it and she’s been fine. But if a dog does have digestive problems it’s always best to exclude chicken to see if that is the cause.

I suspect the issue is less with fresh cooked chicken and more with the cheap fillers added to some dried dog food

Just a little advice given from the heart .
Look for a puppy from show parents and it's a must to have parents that are both KC. registered as well as all the health checks . Don't buy if no KC parents , you won't be sure what you are getting, only a pedigree can show that .
There are lots of breeders out there selling cheap puppies just for the money . Do your homework on the breeder , look up their kennel. Good luck .

Enjoy your new found bestest friend. As long as you can walk and keep him company go for it. I got my little dog when I retired, best thing I done. On our daily walks we met so many lovely people. The only thing I would advise is to go to training classes. We went training for 18 months. In this time we created such a close bond which stayed with us until she very sadly passed away in October last year. She was my best friend. I miss her so much. The first few months will be hard work but the rewards to you will be unbelievable.

When our dogs have needed to have a gentle diet after having been ill or operated on, the vet always suggests giving them chicken and rice. I think perhaps some are confusing giving dogs cooked chicken on the bone. That is to be avoided as the cooked bone can splinter, raw chicken is actually perfectly ok.

I've had many Cocker Spaniels as they are my favourite dog .
I've never known any of them be snappy with children.
But they can be jealous of each other and this problem is more common in bitches and reds .
A Cocker Spaniel is a very loving animal and even mentioned in A
Midsummer's Night's
Dream as devoted .

Lucky you. I have been looking at Cockers myself but unfortunately not found one yet. Have lots of fun and let us know how it goes.

Have you looked on the Champdogs site?

I bred one litter a few years ago and advertised on Pets4homes. Lots on there. Make sure they are reared in the house, confident and wriggling when you pick them up, and KC registered HTH

"Woody" hmm, do look up the slang

Pets4homes are well known for advertisements from back street breeders.

My daughter recently bought another whippet and she had a terrible time shorting through all the ads .
She asked me to help her as kept finding breeders who hadn't had their dogs health tested, no pedigrees, lots of racers but she wanted a puppy from show parents .It's a nightmare.

I would t go near Pets at Home
Show breeders registered with Champ Dogs are usually good

We have one named buster and he’s just amazing . Loving and gentle . He’s 9 now and we had from a puppy and has never ever been agressive. We have 5 grandchildren and he’s wonderful with them and he’s like a celebrity here as everyone loves him . Takes the postman 10 mins to post a letter as he loves to fuss buster . Best breed of dogs ever . We walk him without a lead when we can and he comes to us the minute we call him . He’s my little baby he follows me everywhere . Good luck with your new puppy smile

Whatever name you choose it's totally up to you but japanese names for pets suit so well. I've seem someone online who have dog and cats and they have names them in japanese. So I'll also suggest going for a Japanese j name for your cocker.

This was two weeks ago, did poster get the puppy?

WelwynWitch3 Sun 13-Apr-25 11:02:08

We had two cocker sisters. Roans. Tails not docked. The most loving and lovable dogs we ever owned.

I think ‘block coloured’ cockers are more inbred to produce a tan or fully black coat.

The only nasty cocker I knew belonged to a friend. A tan block. She’d bite and growl. I used to ignore her.

Goodness, this thread is now months old!
Silly me for not checking. Caught out again. Resurrected for nefarious purposes!
