I grew up with a corgi as our family dog. There doesn't appear to be so many these days. When my children were small we had a rescue dog of the Heinz 57 variety. He would sit in the doll's pram under a blanket and be quite happy being pushed around the back garden. My family, all grown up, have Spaniels. Cockers and Springers. Intelligent, lively characters with the most beautiful faces. I love them all.

What is Your Favourite Dog Breed .
(80 Posts)There seems to be a lot of dog lovers on GN so I thought I'd start a thread on favourite breed .
I've had lots of breeds in my life from a tiny Toy Poodle to a Great Dane , German Shepherd, tiny JR, tiny Papillon, Labrador, and my absolute favourite the Rough Collie.
I've had 9 collie's, got 2 atm. I love most dogs but the Rough is the love of my life . So obedient, loving and kind.
What's your favourite ?
Working springers and the odd (mental) cocker. Love them.
I’ve had dogs all my life. The best were Cavalier King Charles spaniels but they have terrible health problems so should not be bred or sold.
I also love pugs, who have been bred to look cute but can’t breathe, so another breed I wouldn’t have now.
My present dog is a pug/Jack Russell cross who hates all other dogs and barks at every sound. I love her but she’s the most difficult dog I’ve ever met.
I love all breeds, but my favourite at the moment is our Bassett Fauve de Bretagne.
Border Collies, always had rescue ones. I'm too old now for them.
Instead l have a Toby, he is an Anatolian shepherd/ lab mix. 17 years young and the nicest dog l have ever had.
Spaniels, all types.
Now we have my daughter, her wife and their 3 mini sausages living with us I’ve become very fond of this naughty, affectionate, stubborn and funny breed.
I also love labs and retrievers and setters, in fact most breeds. I just wish pugs, French bulldogs and other breeds with those flat squashed faces would stop being bred, they have so many health issues often especially breathing
Jack Russell crossed with Basset Hound and Labrador crossed with Springer Spaniel.
Pure bred..... Poodle.

If I'm lucky enough to have another dog someday l
would love a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen.
As I just put on another thread, the tri coloured long haired Collie, one day I shall have one as I’ve promised myself.
A mixture
my beautiful girl had some collie, some spaniel, maybe a bit of lab she was a great little mixture and had a wonderful kind personality I would never pay hundreds for a mixed breed which is what cockapoos and labradoodles etc are what we knew years ago as mongrels just now bred on purpose and given a fancy name 🤣
Like the OP, my favourite dog breeds are rough collies.
We have had two gorgeous rough collies, and they are so sweet and gentle. Much more so than our present dog - a yorkie/pomeranian. He's 14 years old, quite small, and doesn't take any prisoners.

libra10 It's lovely to see someone else who loves Rough Collies as much as me
I've had 9 altogether including the two I have at present.
Their temperament is second to none .

That would be the Rough Collie .
I've had 9 of this wonderful breed , including the two I have at present . You never have to raise your voice to this breed. All they want is to please their owners .
If you do decide to get one be prepared to be interrogated by the breeders, good breeders won't sell their puppies to anyone, I've known some that won't sell if you've never had one before.
cockapoo. No contest!! My daughter has the most beautiful adorable dog you could ever meet. Such a sweet nature and she never stops smiling. She's a wonderful therapy dog too. Just love her to bits.
I am very fond of terriers.
My beloved Cairn. I’d have him back in a heart beat.
I love Springer Spaniels. They're so loyal they'd lay down their life for you. But the loveliest dog we ever had was a Red Setter. She was crazy and energetic but oh- so loving. When we first had her she'd bare her teeth at you and we then realised she was actually giving you a great, big smile.
We have a Cairn Terrier. He has given us a tremendous amount of love and pleasure for 12 1/2 years. He thinks every human is his friend, except for one man on the other side of the street some years ago who made his hackles rise - we trusted his instincts. He is a clown with a permanent smile on his face and a little smile that often wags so enthusiastically that it goes round in circles like a windmill. As we have always had a lot of people in and out of our house because of my music teaching, we deliberately wanted a breed that had the reputation of being friendly as well as a fairly small dog that would not shed hair (allergies). He has delivered all this and more, helping several children to overcome a fear of dogs.

He sounds adorable.
I think the best breed tends to be the one you have! I've always had border terriers, they have all been super family dogs, each had his own personality but they all shared certain characteristics. I think you have to be a terrier sort of person to appreciate them, they are trainable but you have to put the work in, they are loving but on their own terms and they are either super active or pretending to sleep but with always one eye open waiting for something to happen. They have all been very independent which I like but wouldn't suit everyone. I know a couple of lovely cavapoos who are the easiest dogs ever but I'm not completely sure I'd want a really "easy" dog so I'll stick with BTs.
Couldn’t really choose, currently have a toy poodle who is a dream, with one exception, he is a bit of a humaniser. Forever having to put him back on lead as he wants to jump up and greet everyone, not always appreciated. He is very obedient and has fabulous recall so not a problem.
Have had little terriers and Labradors before. I believe everyone has one special dog in a lifetime ( if they are doggie people) mine was a terrier. But I love most dogs for different reasons.
As the saying goes, every person thinks their dog is the best in the world. And none of them are wrong.
Another Cavalier King Charles lover here I've had three but two had heart disease and one had diabetes. Lovely sweet temperaments though. I have a cockapoo and a bishon now, the bishon is a little gentleman, you wouldn't know he was around, the cockapoo on the other hand is completely crackers but she's so sweet and loving, they're called velcro dogs and she certainly is my little shadow
