I need a new dog collar for my dachshund and would appreciate your thoughts as to what information to put on the collar apart from dogs name and my telephone number. I'm inclined towards putting on 'I'm spayed ' to deter would be breeders if stolen.

My thoughts are to put only what is necessary. I have seen it suggested not to put dogs name on put yours instead. Never thought to put on the fact they have been spayed but there again mine are makes

Surname, address and contact number Mazgg and don't put on the name of your dog.

Don't put your dog's name on the collar. Your surname and telephone number is all you need. I'm assuming your dog is microchipped anyway.

My dog's tag has our name, address and phone number; and the name of our previous dog. Current dog inherited the tag but not the name.

Just use SPAY in place of her name.?

Some owners don't put the dogs name on its tag so that thieves can't use it to entice them.

By UK law, the owner's name and address should be stated on the tag.

Yes. We only knew that because we were told about it when we took our dog to puppy classes. I think a phone number is very important too. My dogs collar says ‘ identichipped’. And I agree about spayed to deter theft for puppy farming. I don’t think some dog owners are aware about it being illegal to not constrain their dogs in the car.

I have "Please phone my mum (My Name) I am chipped, lost, need daily meds and spayed (My Number)". We have one of the ones with a hole in the middle and the words go round the front and back edges. I actually had a call once, when hubby was walking her and she got a bit in front of him. A kindly walker, called me and he got hell for letting her out of his sight! I put the bit about the meds and being spayed to put folks off dognapping her.

Never put the dogs name.
Weve got telephone number and postcode only

This is the legal requirement

Theorically you're meant to have your name and address.
The phone number is recommended, though I actually think this is the most important part.
Our dog has several tags, when travelling aboard he has a Union Jack tag with a +44 code.

*abroad
Though he does travel aboard a ferry! 😂

You don’t put your dog’s name on because a dognapper can then call your dog by their name and get them to go with them. Mine has our surname, address and phone number. Just realised it’s not my mobile but our analogue phone which soon won’t be used. Have to get a new tag.

I didn't realise address had to be shown. I use collar with information embroidered on it as my previous dog got a claw stuck in the ring attaching the disk.
