I haven't been on Gransnet for ages, so this is the first time I have seen this art thread and it's fantastic. What a talented group of people you are. I dabble a bit myself and used to do a lot of acrylics but seem to have lost the inspiration now.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get the painting app for android tablets and, if so, what is it called and what does it cost, please? I believe David Hockney does a lot of work on an i-pad and some of the examples on here are fantastic, so I would like to have a go but my tablet is a Samsung. Any advice, anyone?

This was the first painting I did some years ago in watercolour. Have painted several pictures of different subjects but haven't painted for a couple of years now due to other pressures in life. Hope to return soon to what used to be my favourite pastime.

Worthit that's great! (What brand of tobacco does he smoke?) What did you use? Is it digital?

This is Eric.

I watched the You Tube tutorial yesterday, and thought I would have a go. I have a Samsung tablet, so downloaded a different free app, called Smart Paint, but it is very similar. I tried a landscape like on the demonstration, but have only used an ordinary stylus or finger as yet (bidding for a brush, as Rockgran recommended, on Ebay, currently at £3, ending in 20 hours.). My picture was rubbish, but I started to get the hang of the painting and blending techniques. Wish me luck. I am not in the least artistic, so I don't expect to be posting the results!

rockgran - thanks for this iPad art - just watched the you tube video and it looks such fun. Do you think an eye shadow brush would work? Or is there something special about the brushes? Going to try and download tomorrow and have some fun.

Just found this thread. How lovely are these! Like to dabble but not at this standard. Just find painting and drawing so very relaxing.

Best wishes

Thank you, FarNorth!

That's a lovely picture, rockgran. I feel the busy looking penguins emphasise the serenity of the whole scene.
Beautiful smile

(Love the footballer, too)

He does not, bless him, have an aesthetic bone in his lovely body! Love your pictures - keep 'em coming! Anyone else out there inspired by a hint of Spring to get their brushes out?

rockgran Wed 04-Mar-15 10:25:45

Thank you, Greyduster. I think your DH would see a change in the Falklands now. It is a haven for wildlife and very unspoilt . There are still reminders of the war in '82 but now they are more focused on presenting its rugged natural beauty.

Greyduster Wed 04-Mar-15 09:43:16

That's a lovely painting. I showed it to DH. He was very impressed with the gathering of penguins, which he remembers from his time in the Falklands. He was posted there a couple of times and took lots of photos, but they are mostly of helicopters, disused Argentinian ammunition dumps and stuff like that - not useful subject matter!

rockgran Wed 04-Mar-15 08:20:56

Love the footballer, Greyduster!

Thought I'd do a real watercolour as a change from the ipad. This is from a photo of Gypsy Cove in the Falklands.

On Rockgran's recommendation, I got the same one. Going to have to get another one for my grandson, who will not leave this app alone since I downloaded it! Here is his first effort!

rockgran Tue 24-Feb-15 14:26:37

Hi Pompa - I got this one -
"Kit Paint Brush Stylus for iPad/iPhone/Tablet/Smartphone" from Ebay and it was 12.99. It has a retractable brush and the other end is an ordinary stylus.

pompa Tue 24-Feb-15 13:52:16

Which stylus brush did you Ipaders get ?

rockgran Tue 24-Feb-15 11:57:40

Thanks, Greyduster - I think that boat is terrific. I have only really done rather hazy scenery so far. I did try a flower but haven't got to grips with the detail yet.

rockgran Tue 24-Feb-15 11:55:33

No,I think it is spam.

janerowena Tue 24-Feb-15 11:01:03

Maybe it's 'Art'? A sort of freeform prose? grin

Love the digital art.

I agree; I too thought it felt rather set up. I didn't like the lady judge; she looks like the sort who might rap you across the knuckles with a mahl stick for turning out dodgy efforts (mine would be red raw!). Some of her comments were blunt to say the least, and I thought she had it in for the poor bloke with the beard from the start. I'm surprised he managed to make it into next week!

Mishap Tue 24-Feb-15 09:42:01

I did watch the programme and am recording it for my DD - I was intrigued by their very diverse styles and the useful comments by the experts.

My only gripe with the programme was the competitive element and that nonsense format where one person gets ditched each week - it is becoming boringly formulaic. I was also deeply puzzled by the fact that at least 3 of the participants had very little skill, considering that they picked 10 people out of thousands of entrants. I am tempted to think they deliberately picked them to give the show its competitive element and it feels rather set up.

However I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be watching every week. I will go and make a cup of tea when they get to the "The person who will be leaving this week is (holding breath) .......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Fred Bloggs"!! Cue tears and hugs.

Splendid art on here from Gnetters. When I have a moment I will put up some of my art photography.

Pompa - do NOT give up!!! I loved your painting.
