Friends that depress you!

I have a friend whom I like very much - she has no gc and is not a member of Gransnet, so I can safely tell you about her. She is very pessimistic and her messages are always full of the awful things that are happening in her life. Every time I suggest something she could do to improve matters, she tells me some reason why it won't work.
I told her my good news about my grandson getting into the Royal Navy yesterday, and her only comment was 'You must be worried, it sounds a very dangerous job'. Actually, I am not worried because I know the RN will train him very well, and he will be doing something he loves and making lots of friends.
I manage to keep very cheerful most days, in spite of my own family problems, and I could do without her continually telling me how rotten life is!
I think some of you might have partners like this - Eeyores - so have you any advice as to the best way to deal with her? She wants to come on a short holiday with me but I am afraid it would not be joyous, like my jaunts with Juragran!

I still dont think you really understand it is not a question of just ignoring some thread because of not being interested it is a deliberate move and one of the "bullies" openly spoke to sending the victim to coventry, as as Whenim says also very derogatory comments.

Confidential stuff from another victim was also put on the forum, it is not good.

Of course disagreeing with anothers opinion is not bullying, but being rude and confrontational on a Forum is really as there is no need for it, and if you did not agree then the person responsbile would send you nasty private messages, all very childish really.

probably making this worse by trying to explain, yes my other half would not go on any forums!!!

Greatnan Sat 06-Oct-12 18:13:30

I think we are in complete agreement Anne, but that kind of ignoring has not, to my knowledge, taken place on Gransnet.
I am interested in why you use your the name of your husband as well as your own if he is not interested in contributing to the forum
I was unsure whether or not you were both posting!

anneandgraham Sat 06-Oct-12 18:32:35

just came up with as a username Great nan, did not use my imagination very much!! no to my knowledge not found anything like that on here so far thank goodness!!

whenim64 Sat 06-Oct-12 19:17:33

Huge difference between challenging Gransnetters and openly colluding to bully, which I have never experienced on here. If I did, I would complain, but i would not ignore bullying. If things did not improve, as on the other site, i would leave and give my reasons. I enjoy challenging debate, it's stimulating and makes me think. smile

anneandgraham Sat 06-Oct-12 20:24:53

well said Whenim and I totally agree!!

Nanadogsbody Sat 06-Oct-12 20:43:37

Whether or not something is actual bullying can be quite subjective, and so much rests on the feelings of the person being 'bullied'. Unlike the Headteacher who says 'there is no bullying at my school' I believe there will always be a degree of bullying in any school, workplace or forum.

What I have found in the short time I've been posting on GN is that the majority of GNetters are very human and supportive. But I do know what you are talking about anneand hmm

Curlycut Sat 06-Oct-12 21:17:25

I am a new member on this site but I don't think it helps slagging off another site usually there are two sides to a story and it does't help new members like me to stay on this site very dissappointed with this site

grannygrace Sat 06-Oct-12 21:19:35

Anneandgraham, it has really saddened me to read your posts,it must be obvious to everyone which forum you refer to. I have quoted your views on the said forum for people to read. I can say without doubt you have recieved nothing but support on the said forum everyone has been fair and unbiased. Perhaps you want to go over and name the bullies you say exist on there. And to imply the forum is badly managed well thats very derogratory. Im sure admin will be really pleased to hear this after all the support they have shown you. For all you other ladies on here who I havent yet got to know, please let me just say these are false claims posted by someone who sounds bitter. Everyone on every forum will have different views and opinions on everything in the universe, but if we all agree to disagree without nastiness and rancour then that is a good thing. I am stunned at what I have read posted by Anneandgraham,I sincerely hope she can back up her claims.

Greatnan Sat 06-Oct-12 21:20:36

Nobody has mentioned another site by name and we are entitled to recount our own experiences.

Greatnan Sat 06-Oct-12 21:24:29

It is not obvious to me!

anneandgraham Sat 06-Oct-12 21:44:59

well said Great nan !!

grannygrace Sat 06-Oct-12 21:51:54

Well Anne can go and openly state who these people are then cant she, come on none of us are that naive there are 2 popular granny sites and this is one of them. Anyway from her post I/we know exactly which forum she means.

Daman Sat 06-Oct-12 21:54:30

Hello lovely people I am back.
Thank you all for the comments to me and about me since Thursday. All comment is valuable to help me understand myself.
So.
How far has Greatnan moved her situation since starting the thread on Thursday morning? I think she moved a little, and if we give more love and understanding to her then she in turn may give more of it.

And: the diversion to gillybob seems to have helped her work some things through.
Let us all love and respect ourselves first. How can we help others if we are weak and not lifted by love?

Become robust with caring for yourself, then you will be stronger to help and understand others.

anneandgraham Sat 06-Oct-12 21:55:15

Totally agree Whenim 64 maybe you would care to look at that post Grannygrace

Ana Sat 06-Oct-12 21:57:02

I think grannygrace has posted on here before - but only on this subject. She obviously has an axe to grind, and to pursue someone like this is disgraceful. You have my every sympathy, Anne! angry

merlotgran Sat 06-Oct-12 21:57:47

Sorry, grannygrace but I haven't a clue what you're talking about. Surely I can't be the only one who doesn't know (or care) which forum you're referring to. confused

anneandgraham Sat 06-Oct-12 22:04:10

Thanks Ana and Merlotgran smile

grannygrace Sat 06-Oct-12 22:04:45

Okay ladies judge me as you will, but the truth will out.I have no axe to grind with anyone, obviously Im not allowed to have an opinion. I dont stand in judgement on anyone, neither do I give a damn.

Faye Sat 06-Oct-12 22:13:55

greatnan is correct in what she says, "nobody has mentioned another site by name and we are entitled to recount our own experiences."

grannygrace and curlycut it appears you are following anneandgraham onto this site from another. I think you have done this before and it is bullying. angry

Elegran Sat 06-Oct-12 22:14:24

So why not let it go? Both of you. I would not have had the slightest interest in what went on in another forum had the quarrel not been continued onto this one.

On this forum we try not to carry cross words from one thread to another. Carrying it from one forum to another does seem like a continuing vendetta.

anneandgraham Sat 06-Oct-12 22:17:45

Thank you Faye I have reported it to admin lets hope they stay away now.

Thank you all very much for your support.

Greatnan Sat 06-Oct-12 22:20:21

Thank you for your interest, Daman, I will try very hard to be kinder and more loving.

Joy56 Sat 06-Oct-12 22:25:03

Oh my goodness. I have just joined the forum tonight and I can't believe this. Please tell me that it isn't always like this, otherwise I will just stick with the telly!

jeni Sat 06-Oct-12 22:29:34

joy56[

This is a very strange thread!
I don't like the way it's going either.
Try looking at the midland meet one and you'll get a much better idea of ussmile

Greatnan Sat 06-Oct-12 22:31:33

I am sorry my thread has been hi-jacked but in this case I am not guilty! However, I am apparently not loving and kind enough - I must try harder. grin
