Jeanie

My hubby is exactly the same. Actually you made me smile when you said he forgot to buy you a xmas present 'once'. Mine doesn't do cards or presents full stop. grin.

I like to buy cards and keep them 'in reserve'. The problem is I bought some, for a son - in - law, daughter now getting divorced. I wish I had never bought cards for parents as it only reminds me that I no longer have them to post cards too.

The question is, would I change him?. The answer is no! He is my rock and I don't care about the cards or presents just as long as he keeps mowing the lawns and carrying my cases on holiday wink

The usual answer is I never know what to buy you, and he's never understand it's not so much what he bought it's the fact he took the the trouble go out and spend time buying something even if it was just a bar of chocolate.

Ex was brought up like that, it took me years to realise that it was simply how his family had always lived. I took it personally, of course, and he resented it. As he began to see how our friends were with birthdays and Christmas, he gradually changed, but his heart was never in it. In the end I came to realise that his family were simply that way inclined, and he was at the end of a long line of non-givers in every sense of the word. I used to say, I just like to think that you have bothered to think about me, and what I might like, for a change. Then realised that his secretary had been choosing my presents for years. Luckily she had good taste.

My daughter and son send me presents and never forget mothers day my birthday or Christmas so I guess something good did come out of our relationship, I have caring children.

Poor Jeannie that is horrible! We all need to be cherished in some way or life becomes all give! Just hope he has other redeeming features! Mr P has always been good at presents, but lacking in the kisses and cuddles departmentsad

Nonu I have the most annoying hubby when it comes to cards/anniversary etc.he always says why do I need a special day to say ILY when I can tell you every day of the year,he certainly has a way with words to get him out of most situations.grin

Nonu Fri 09-May-14 16:51:59

Just got back from my health club, had a lovely refreshing swim !!

Am up for whatever the evening throws at me !!

Have a little confession here, we have now decided to send the same anniversary cards, instead of buying new ones, seems to be good way forward.

Saves the planet etc. smile

The low point was the year he said "When IS your birthday?" and I said "Yesterday!" He never been quite that bad again.

I used to buy presents and a card for birthday and Christmas until I finally got the message he wasn't going to change

What I should have done is changed him for a newer model years ago.

Brendawymms Thu 08-May-14 20:35:56

It's reassuring to find that other DH are as useless. grin. I do at least get a valentine card each year.

Nonu Thu 08-May-14 19:48:28

susieb755 Thu 08-May-14 19:38:44

Bless he sounds worse than mine ! Once when we were really broke, I said not to worry getting me anything for my birthday... he tookme at my word and didnt even get me a card... sad

I have a husband who thinks it's a waste of money buying cards so I've rarely received any during our marriage in fact I never receive presents for my birthday or anniversary.
He once missed buying me something for Christmas just said he forgot.
I was particularly hurt that year but he didn't think it was a big deal and thought I was making a fuss complaining.

It's not just me he doesn't buy presents or cards for any of the family well that's until
our first grandchild arrived and he can't stop buying he's just bought him two footballs and he's only 6 months old.
