Father's Day Cards.

Well done to your son in Australia. Sometimes you have to draw a line under the children who treat you like dirt but admire your husband still loving and trying for your other son. I hope he had a lovely day.

I was so relieved when the postman delivered a card from our DS in Aus. for DH for father's day. It isn't father's day there until September so well done son for making your dad's day.

A son so far away making sure his dad is remembered and his brother just down the road, who does nothing for the dad who loves him so much despite the way he has and continues to treat us.

Well, my DS has had the dirt dished on him when things have been going bad but nothing much is said when he is behaving well so I thought I would say something positive about him.

He bought me The Very Best of Glenn Miller today for my Father's Day present, he couldn't even wait until tomorrow to give it to me, he was excited to see my reaction. It was a lovely surprise as I have loved this music for many years so it was very nice to think he had thought of me while he was out earlier.

I know it's not all about buying things for people, god, I was done out of thousands in my divorce and I don't care, I am not about money at all, it's about being appreciated and not being taken for granted. No matter how this is shown, home made card, paper flowers my daughter once made me because I had hay fever, it's the thought. And imagination of being able to come up with something that means something to someone but doesn't cost the earth.

By the way, there was a huge thread about Mother's Day but not much for Father's Day?

Did I read somewhere there was a Grandparents day as well?? Is this yet another money making idea imported from America?

They already have Step Parent cards.

I think you're right though, Maggiemaybe. It's just another money-making exercise and of course as soon as the children of single parents see these cards they'll feel guilty if they don't buy one...

Perhaps we should just abandon Mother's Day and Father's Day and just have a Parent's or Parents' Day...

I doubt it. I should think one of the card companies will have come up with this one at one of their monthly meetings. I shouldn't be talking the idea down though - my DD2 is a card designer!

I think it's a lovely idea. At least they are available if the DCs want them, someone must have wanted to be able to do it at some time which would have prompted the making of them.

I don't see the point either. As has been said, just another money maker.
I do however, think it's lovely for children to make their own if they wish. If I was in that position I'd be really chuffed if my children wanted to show that they understood the duel roll I was playing. I don't think they should feel the need to buy one if they see it in a shop though.

nope, I can't see the point of it either.If a lone Father bringing up children, they send Dad a card for Fathers Day and ditto when it's Mothers Day for lone mums.Simples.It's just a bad excuse to flog loads of cards.

I don't get it really. Surely you're either Dad or Mum, even if you do have to be all things to the children. Getting two special days seems over the top. Similar to someone I know who bought presents for both of her children on both birthdays. I couldn't see the point of that either.

I don't see why not grumppa, I have a friend who is a full time single dad bringing up three children, two daughters and a son. Why shouldn't he be appreciated for doing both jobs of mum and dad because it is bloody hard work not to have a partner to share responsibility with.

So will the next step be fathers' cards for Mothering Sunday?

I came across this one on Ebay, never seen one before. The nearest I have come to receiving one is a Mother's Day greeting from my cats. They are very clever!
I find the shops only stock cards for men showing beer,cricket, football or cars. Much more choice on line.
