Smileless No, I didn't have any of the tartan I think, I was a little shy in my early teens, believe it or not. Still liked their music though although I liked Showaddywaddy more, the teddy boy look and very colourful.

I didn't manage to get to the auction. I was up at 6.30, only had about 4 hours sleep so was shattered at 8am, back to bed. When I thought about it, I missed my thyroid tablet yesterday plus been on a bit of a high since he went so relaxed today and put my feet up.

The things, Cherry for auction have been thoroughly researched, no great value but might bring in a few bob. Mostly figurines of women, I had a collection of women in their best form, as a mother, dancer, dressed up like ascot, etc. It is something I would like to do as a hobby, as and when I can, go to the auction, learn more, it seems interesting.

Not really into David Cassidy Smileless, but it was lovely to hear Bay City Rollers and Showaddywaddy again. I did like David Essex too, got in a lift with him once in Liverpool. Gorgeous then and still is. [phew emoticon].

Me too Cherrytree and Mr. S. doesn't like my 70s CD's either. Oooh David Cassidy, I loved himstill love to hear his voice and it's so sad to see him going down hill.

Not sure why as the space I have cleared quite quickly fills back up again.
What sort of things are you hoping to put in the auction?
I only ask as my dad got rid of most of my mums things after she passed away, not realising that they had some value.
They were not sentimental things mostly china and vases.
It was along time ago and we didn't check the bottom for the make.
My aunt made the same mistake with my gran's bits and bobs.
So if it similar things Ruby have look underneath for makers name or mark and check out on Internet.
Auctions sometimes want you to put in job lots
but you might not realise that one of them may have some value and be snapped up by an eagle eyed dealer.

I am enjoying the peace, my own noise is just wonderful. I had a lovely bath earlier with a cd of the '70's on, brilliant. I also got rid of the boy stuff out of the bathroom and now it's all pink and glittery with a new towel with a diamante butterfly on.

Then I had a trip to the tip, after a nap, with the dog. A really nice man there took the bags from the back seat and put them in the skip for me. It is amazing how many people will help me, I wondered how I would manage but it's been great and reassuring that people are genuinely lovely.

I'm off to the antique auction tomorrow. I've wanted to go for ages and not got there but the auction itself is tomorrow so I'll go and get a brew and see what goes on. I have a few bits that can go for sale but I want to see how things happen first. It's a local one, been on tele, so excited about that.

I have just phoned Rubyson and he is playing truth or dare with his flatmates. He, never having ate an egg, has just took a raw egg! Yesterday he was sat on his own in his room playing on his computer, as usual, so I am more than pleased he is having some fun tonight. Freshers week starts tomorrow, so it'll be lovely to hear what he is up to this next few days.

I do think that because of him going, I am having to do things for myself, which I just work out better, have inhalers in each room for example, a drinking glass in each room, medicines upstairs as well as downstairs, that sort of thing. And I just take my time more. But having no one to answer to, I can do things as and when I please although I am trying to get my sleep pattern sorted a bit better than being up all night. Now he isn't here I get peace all day so don't have to wait until he has gone to bed so therefore can get myself a bit more organised sleep wise. I still need my afternoon rest though.

My doggie has been really confused, missing her friend and watching me bring out new things, I've totally baffled the poor little girl. She came to the tip with me so she's fine but still confused.

Enjoy your space Ruby but make sure you allow yourself some down time. Remember, as others have said, your son will be back during holidays and in my experience may well revert from independent young man to annoying adolescent. I hope he will settle well and enjoy HIS freedom. Some for you to mark a new stage in both your lives.

I agree ruby, you need to take it easy for a while. You've been through such a difficult time you must be emotionally and physically exhausted.

I hope that being away from you will help your son see what a wonderful mum you are and how fortunate he is to have you. This time apart could be really good for your relationship.

You know where we are, so keep posting about your progress with all your new stuff! Just take it easy though and try not to make yourself more unwell. Indian style is so in fashion just now and there's so much to choose from - I love it. Our wardrobe doors have the painted door knobs, but we've had them for years, so maybe it's time for a change (Amazon here I come). I also fancy something with painted elephants and right now it's probably going to be cushion covers.

Those knobs are fantastic ruby but the choice is bewildering. I wouldn't know where to start. Good luck with your plans, you sound more positive already.

No, the furniture guy was hardly Mellors (although I had to look up who that was, it took me a while ) and I won't be asking him to take anything off!

Good Luck ruby I well remember the day I left DD2 at university and kept laying her place at dinner for the next week and bursting into tears. I hope he really enjoys university life and you enjoy the next phase in yours. Love the idea of you having a Mellors to do the garden!!

It just occurs to me, and I am sure I am not alone. I have reached the age of 79 and have never lived on my own at all. I have hardly ever been on my own at all. My H rarely went away for work and if he did I had the C at home. They were both still at home when he took early retirement. He has never been in hospital. I wonder now how I would cope. I hope ruby is enjoying the freedom.
