Well, he has gone. And I'm shattered, been up since 3am and not stopped all day yet. Deliveries. The furniture which should have come yesterday came today. I couldn't get it out of the boxes so had to phone a man I had never met. He came and within half an hour I had drove him mad! I kept adding on little jobs while he was here, grin. Flowers eventually came, post, Tesco, furniture man, tablets from chemist and saw a friend go by so had a word with him too. So sat in chaos now, furniture in, looks really good but off to bed for a nap in a minute and then I can watch some tele later and relax for a bit.

Ah yes, I have a son, don't I? grin He was in tears as he left, well, we both were, as expected really. It took them about 3 hours to get there (Aberystwyth) and then he unpacked his things while taking in his surroundings. He says it's a lovely place. I have spoke to him and told him to go and play with the others instead of playing on his computer on his own. Anyway, up to him now. He did sound ok though, even though I thought I had bought him a new duvet and it seems I didn't. [whoops]

Right now I feel good about it all. It's nice to be able to do my own thing without feeling guilty if I go for a sleep and not be around to chat to. Plus I haven't even been outside today and I've spoke to half a dozen people. The furniture man is coming back on Monday to do my garden for me too, so that will be good, getting organised again now. And my cleaner is back on board next week too.

Now, Strictly tonight, so off to bed for an hour. . .

Never Cherry grans are just antique little girls! We still have the teen girls inside us.

Yes, I was speechless, seeing David appear at the side of me at the lift, couldn't speak! And we share the same birthday.

I liked Leo Sayer in the day, not so much now.

I'd go with you to see Les if we lived close by.

Smileless No, I didn't have any of the tartan I think, I was a little shy in my early teens, believe it or not. Still liked their music though although I liked Showaddywaddy more, the teddy boy look and very colourful. grin

Cherrytree59 Mon 26-Sept-16 19:36:46

I was a Bay City Roller fan Smileless But wasn't brave enough to say.
No baggy trousers just the tartan scarf to wave
One of them not sure if it is Les is going to be on at our local theatre. But I would have to by myself sad
I think they are still big in Japan

I also liked T Rex.
Marc Bolan had gorgeous hair.

Very envy Ruby that you met David in the flesh!

I saw the Osmonds in concert.
Also Leo Sayer.

All in the dim distant past now.

Smileless2012 Mon 26-Sept-16 19:12:35

Oh I was a Bay City Rollers fan too ruby; Alan was my favouriteblush. Did you ever make over a pair of baggy white trousers, reduce the length and put tartan round the bottom?blushblush

Yep I agree that David Essex is still rather yummy (don't tell Mr.S.)

Don't forget your thyroid medication today, it's good to hear that your relaxed and are on a bit of a high. Have a good night's sleepmoon; sweet dreams.

rubylady Mon 26-Sept-16 17:13:40

I didn't manage to get to the auction. sad I was up at 6.30, only had about 4 hours sleep so was shattered at 8am, back to bed. When I thought about it, I missed my thyroid tablet yesterday plus been on a bit of a high since he went so relaxed today and put my feet up.

The things, Cherry for auction have been thoroughly researched, no great value but might bring in a few bob. Mostly figurines of women, I had a collection of women in their best form, as a mother, dancer, dressed up like ascot, etc. It is something I would like to do as a hobby, as and when I can, go to the auction, learn more, it seems interesting.

Not really into David Cassidy Smileless, but it was lovely to hear Bay City Rollers and Showaddywaddy again. I did like David Essex too, got in a lift with him once in Liverpool. Gorgeous then and still is. [phew emoticon]. grin

Smileless2012 Mon 26-Sept-16 11:01:07

Me too Cherrytree and Mr. S. doesn't like my 70s CD's eitherconfused. Oooh David Cassidy, I loved himblushstill love to hear his voice and it's so sad to see him going down hill.

Just popped on to ask how you're doing ruby and you seem to be doing very well indeedsmile. I'm so pleased. Have a good time at the auction today. Take care.

Cherrytree59 Mon 26-Sept-16 00:39:19

I'm impressed Ruby you are so organised (with your meds , inhaler etc).
I always feel better when I've done a trip run.
Not sure why as the space I have cleared quite quickly fills back up again.
What sort of things are you hoping to put in the auction?
I only ask as my dad got rid of most of my mums things after she passed away, not realising that they had some value.
They were not sentimental things mostly china and vases.
It was along time ago and we didn't check the bottom for the make.
My aunt made the same mistake with my gran's bits and bobs.
So if it similar things Ruby have look underneath for makers name or mark and check out on Internet.
Auctions sometimes want you to put in job lots
but you might not realise that one of them may have some value and be snapped up by an eagle eyed dealer.

Your little dog will soon cotton on that she has you all to herself.

I have some 70s cds.
Much to my DH disgust ,
but that was my time, David Essex and David Cassidy posters on the purple walls (purple still my fave colour. Bedroom still has purple in it but not the walls)grin

rubylady Sun 25-Sept-16 22:53:26

Thank you all so much, you are all lovely. flowers

I am enjoying the peace, my own noise is just wonderful. I had a lovely bath earlier with a cd of the '70's on, brilliant. I also got rid of the boy stuff out of the bathroom and now it's all pink and glittery with a new towel with a diamante butterfly on.

Then I had a trip to the tip, after a nap, with the dog. A really nice man there took the bags from the back seat and put them in the skip for me. It is amazing how many people will help me, I wondered how I would manage but it's been great and reassuring that people are genuinely lovely.

I'm off to the antique auction tomorrow. I've wanted to go for ages and not got there but the auction itself is tomorrow so I'll go and get a brew and see what goes on. I have a few bits that can go for sale but I want to see how things happen first. It's a local one, been on tele, so excited about that.

I have just phoned Rubyson and he is playing truth or dare with his flatmates. He, never having ate an egg, has just took a raw egg! Yesterday he was sat on his own in his room playing on his computer, as usual, so I am more than pleased he is having some fun tonight. Freshers week starts tomorrow, so it'll be lovely to hear what he is up to this next few days.

I do think that because of him going, I am having to do things for myself, which I just work out better, have inhalers in each room for example, a drinking glass in each room, medicines upstairs as well as downstairs, that sort of thing. And I just take my time more. But having no one to answer to, I can do things as and when I please although I am trying to get my sleep pattern sorted a bit better than being up all night. Now he isn't here I get peace all day so don't have to wait until he has gone to bed so therefore can get myself a bit more organised sleep wise. I still need my afternoon rest though.

My doggie has been really confused, missing her friend and watching me bring out new things, I've totally baffled the poor little girl. She came to the tip with me so she's fine but still confused. confused

Enjoy your space Ruby but make sure you allow yourself some down time. Remember, as others have said, your son will be back during holidays and in my experience may well revert from independent young man to annoying adolescent. I hope he will settle well and enjoy HIS freedom. Some flowers for you to mark a new stage in both your lives.

bikergran Sat 24-Sept-16 17:37:22

"you go Ruby" lol smile you deserve some "you" time.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 24-Sept-16 17:07:44

Smileless that's a lovely post and I would like to echo your thoughts.

Smileless2012 Sat 24-Sept-16 14:05:05

I agree ruby, you need to take it easy for a while. You've been through such a difficult time you must be emotionally and physically exhausted.

I hope that being away from you will help your son see what a wonderful mum you are and how fortunate he is to have you. This time apart could be really good for your relationship.

Take care and enjoy your freedom and some well deserved peaceflowers.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 24-Sept-16 13:39:57

It was a long time coming ruby and he's still at the end of the phone. {{{HUGS}}}

You know where we are, so keep posting about your progress with all your new stuff! Just take it easy though and try not to make yourself more unwell. Indian style is so in fashion just now and there's so much to choose from - I love it. Our wardrobe doors have the painted door knobs, but we've had them for years, so maybe it's time for a change (Amazon here I come). I also fancy something with painted elephants and right now it's probably going to be cushion covers.

annsixty Sat 24-Sept-16 13:22:34

Those knobs are fantastic ruby but the choice is bewildering. I wouldn't know where to start. Good luck with your plans, you sound more positive already.

rubylady Sat 24-Sept-16 13:06:42

Knobs painted in an Indian fashion, dot painting. Take a look on Amazon, they are beautiful, well, I think so anyway. smile

Gagagran Sat 24-Sept-16 12:34:28

What are "Indian knobs" please Ruby?

rubylady Sat 24-Sept-16 12:16:43

No, the furniture guy was hardly Mellors (although I had to look up who that was, it took me a while wink) and I won't be asking him to take anything off!

Cherry Charm, wit and a little "damsel in distress" flirting. See my mojo seems to be coming back already! Talking of which, I have been playing with Indian knobs this morning. I ordered some to put on my new furniture and I've now put them on, they look fantastic. grin

Greyduster Sat 24-Sept-16 09:24:23

Phwoah!! Me too! I have a Mellors but he creaks a bit too much and leans on his spade a lot - but I don't discourage him to take off his - shirt! Let's stop there! shock. Ruby, I am glad things are going well for you. Enjoy your peace and I hope your DS enjoys his time at uni.

MiniMouse Sat 24-Sept-16 09:17:37

Another milestone for you both ruby Don't wear yourself out with all your furniture arranging etc. Like annsixty I've never lived on my own and not sure how that would feel, so I hope you enjoy having your own space - literally and metaphorically!

Teetime Sat 24-Sept-16 09:09:59

Good Luck ruby I well remember the day I left DD2 at university and kept laying her place at dinner for the next week and bursting into tears. I hope he really enjoys university life and you enjoy the next phase in yours. Love the idea of you having a Mellors to do the garden!!grin

annsixty Sat 24-Sept-16 08:54:02

It just occurs to me, and I am sure I am not alone. I have reached the age of 79 and have never lived on my own at all. I have hardly ever been on my own at all. My H rarely went away for work and if he did I had the C at home. They were both still at home when he took early retirement. He has never been in hospital. I wonder now how I would cope. I hope ruby is enjoying the freedom.

cornergran Sat 24-Sept-16 08:35:46

Huge day on all sorts of levels ruby. Hope you had a good night and a positive day to come, don't be surprised if you are shattered though, lots going on.

Willow500 Sat 24-Sept-16 06:34:11

Sounds like a manic day so hope you're had a good night's sleep to recover and are ready to tackle everything today. I'm sure your son will be fine once he's settled in and as has been said - be ready for the washing when he comes to visit grin

mumofmadboys Fri 23-Sept-16 22:09:56

Are you hoping to visit at all during this term?

NfkDumpling Fri 23-Sept-16 22:03:45

I'm so glad he made it OK! Enjoy your peace and tranquillity Ruby wine

Welshwife Fri 23-Sept-16 21:59:50

Nice place Ruby is he living on the front - always think that part looks lovely - in Hinterland as well as in reality!
