Son has just moved into a house with his girlfriend. Who is lovely and we all get on well. I always send him a special Christmas Card and have got a lovely one to a special couple.
But how do I sign this - is it just mum or my first name. His girlfriend is very close to her family I wouldnt expect or want her to call me mum - my mother in law insisted on this and I found it very difficult to do. So I now just dont know how to sign the card. Any novel ideas or am I just worrying over nothing.

My DDiL calls me by my name but when I send a card to son and wife I always put Mum & Dad. However, when I send her a birthday card I put our names.

I do the same as Chrissyh with DD2 and her partner, he calls us by our first names. DD1's husband calls us Mummy and Daddy so that's how I sign his card.

Like Greenfinch I sign mine Mummy/Milly - the Mummy is a jokey thing - I have two daughters with husbands.

I usually sign myself "M" as it is both Mum and my first name... takes your pick?

Mum, Jo and Joma. Although they refer to me as Marge for some unknown reason

If I'm sending a card to one of my children and their partner I always sign it mum but if just to their partner for their birthday I use just my first name.

I too would use 'mum' 'teddy'

My Hungarian daughter in law has called me mum ever since their wedding, which I love. She is the daughter I would have wished for had I had a girl. So never any problems with signing cards etc.

I usually put M&D with our names in brackets underneath to one son as she is still close to her parents - the other I just put M&D as DIL has a lot of family issues and she's been with my son 27 years. Now granddaughter is living with her boyfriend I put N&G (names in brackets).

My DiLs call me by my first name so I tend to put Mum/Polly on cards to brh ;or even Mum/Polly/granny to whole family.
Or sometimes just Mum !

pollyperkins Wed 06-Dec-17 17:29:15

If from us both Mum & Dad (Polly & his first name)

I am Mum, Mommy and Mamma to my three children. Their partners call me by my first name. So I sign whatever child calls me plus my first name smile

I regularly sign things Marushka/Mummy/Nonna.

Well you are still his Mum , so if it's to both of them I think Mum or Mum ---- ( your name attached ) is fine .

I'm an AC and wouldn't think anything amiss of I saw an IL write "mum" if my other half was also on the card. It also shows acceptance of the dil without sending them down the aisle or inferring that she calls you mum from now on.
