Limerence ..... the shame and embarrassment of it

I’ve just gone through this and it wasn’t pleasant.
Please can I ask if anyone else has gone through this?
I’ve only recently been able to put a name to it and am embarrassed to post admitting it. I’m happy to say I’m at the tail end but I’m married, I’m 51 years of age and although I’ve had silly ‘crushes’ occasionally I thought I’d done with it all, if I’m honest.
Please don’t judge, I’m pretty normal and boring but would love to know if any others have any stories to tell, thanks ?

Probably just hormones.
I am inclined to agree with you there Gonegirl

Jalima1108 Mon 10-Dec-18 17:29:06

Gonegirl
Not my website, so I will butt out.

No need to do that - everyone is entitled to an opinion smile

Gonegirl Mon 10-Dec-18 17:28:57

But how do you tell Mawbroon? Best err on the safe side?

Elegran Mon 10-Dec-18 17:28:35

But, Martha (and gonegirl) A group of sniggering schoolgirls/boys could equally well have been standing giggling at the stories that other posters spread to the world in sympathy with the original post.

Given the gloating posts that only a few days ago greeted the sympathy shown to a poster who had apparently (but not really) received an unpleasant prank phone call, it is clear that among GN viewers we have some nasty "jokers" It would not at the moment have been a good thing for unsuspecting posters to tell their stories of intense crushes - or for the original poster to do so.

Gonegirl Mon 10-Dec-18 17:27:33

No. Can't agree in this instance bathsheba

Jalima1108 Mon 10-Dec-18 17:27:32

I feel bad enough as it is and now I’ve tears in my eyes.
This has really upset me.

HildaW this response seemed to be on a rather familiar theme.
hmm

MawBroon Mon 10-Dec-18 17:26:49

Only if the distress is genuine - feigned is another matter.

Gonegirl Mon 10-Dec-18 17:26:10

Not my website, so I will butt out.

Gonegirl the OP looked worryingly like a "phishing" thread, of which there have been several on GN in recent weeks. The last paragraph seemed to many of us a bit of a giveaway - but would love to know if any others have any stories to tell, thanks . Thankfully there weren't any such stories shared here. Most Gnetters are very careful about what they share on a public forum, having been caught out in the past.
And as Mawbroon noted, these things tend to take place at weekends. A little telling, would you not agree?

Gonegirl Mon 10-Dec-18 17:24:53

There shouldn't be any "rough". Not when someone is obviously in some distress.

janeainsworth Mon 10-Dec-18 17:23:44

I think you’re right Hilda, and the OP’s outraged reaction to not being taken completely seriously only served to reinforce the suspicion that she had an ulterior motive for posting, even if initially she might have been given the benefit of the doubt.

Gonegirl Mon 10-Dec-18 17:23:32

Sad though, if there's no understanding and support for something a lot of women go through.

HildaW Mon 10-Dec-18 17:19:28

I think I am bemused by the apparent naiveté of the OP. This is a public forum - open to all and sundry so why the instant offence and surprise at non supportive, or dismissive comments. One only has to pose an opinion on anything in here....be it a penchant for dark chocolate rather than milk to a preference for handcuffs in the bedroom or ....dare I say it even a liking for those in government(!!!) to quickly understand that we all have a vast and varied range of opinions.....and no matter what the subject matter, no matter how sensitive or silly it is there will be the widest range of opinions and it would be foolish not to appreciate that. Perhaps it seems unkind....but once you lob a subject into the ether you have to be prepared to take the rough with the smooth.

Jalima1108 Mon 10-Dec-18 17:14:38

Elegran, Bluebelle, kittylester, MawBroon, Chewbacca and anyone else I missed - I agree.

the op did the classic egging on and then disappeared.

And now my pash for Lord M is out there on the world wide web. Not content with that, I'm two-timing him with Kim.
blush

Gonegirl Mon 10-Dec-18 17:11:56

I think the OP might have tried to stand up for herself and then given up and left the thread.

kittylester Mon 10-Dec-18 17:09:10

We need to to be taken for a ride even if that means we get it wrong. Not convinced we did get it wrong this time as the op did the classic egging on and then disappeared.

Gonegirl Mon 10-Dec-18 17:05:53

No, I don't think you have misunderstood me at all Bathsheba.

Bathsheba Mon 10-Dec-18 17:00:24

Gonegirl if you have indeed read all the previous posts (notwithstanding the several deleted ones), then I think you would understand why "this has been handled so oddly".
I'm assuming, of course, that by 'being handled' you are referring to the many responses that have clearly not taken the OP's concerns at face value, and not to the knee-jerk reactions of GNHQ who have summarily ticked off some of the more outspoken among us. If I have misunderstood you, I apologise.

Gonegirl Mon 10-Dec-18 16:50:07

Just read previous posts. Why has this been handled so oddly?

Gonegirl Mon 10-Dec-18 16:48:33

I think the menopause can do strange things to us. GrannyH50, you are the right age for this. Don't be embarassed. Put it behind you now. Probably just hormones.

Marydoll Mon 10-Dec-18 16:48:26

Maw ?

kittylester Mon 10-Dec-18 16:41:31

Exactly maw - really good post!

MawBroon Mon 10-Dec-18 16:36:53

Please don’t judge, I’m pretty normal and boring but would love to know if any others have any stories to tell, thanks

In the alm light of day it seems I was not the only person to have doubts about OP’s invitation to “share” experiences and anecdotes.
Share?
On a public forum?
Really?
Yesterday’s heavy handed moderation saw Chewbacca’s entirely innocent limerick strangled at birth - what on Earth was there to take exception to? As well as more deletions than a bottle of Tippex on speed.
No doubt there may be some people I have rubbed up the wrong way elsewhere who could not pass up an opportunity to put the boot in, but I was clearly not alone in my reaction to a thread which was virtually identical to the one to which I gave a (subsequently) deleted link.
There was in fact some advice, kindly given but also some lighthearted but enlightening insights into the fantasies of certain Grans- Monty Don, John Humphrys, Lord Melbourne and the hairy chap from The Killing among them. Oh and the early David Cassidy.
Who’d have guessed.
However, Elegran as ever speaks wise words .
If this was a “phishing” thread we need to be aware of the pitfalls of baring and sharing on a public forum.
If genuine, then one might reasonably expect OP to be prepared to receive PMs.
Either way, these things do seem to happen at weekends don’t they?

kittylester Mon 10-Dec-18 12:04:18

Good post BlueBelle!

BlueBelle Mon 10-Dec-18 12:01:21

May I say on top of the nasty threads we ve had recently if I was so acutely embarrassed by something I would not be posting about it on a public forum and I m afraid the last sentence whilst most probably innocent this time could have been used in ways not wanted by people answering We have in the past had people trying to get other people’s stories for book writing purposes so please forgive us if we seem surspicious there are valid reasons, we are not nasty people
