Limerence ..... the shame and embarrassment of it

I’ve just gone through this and it wasn’t pleasant.
Please can I ask if anyone else has gone through this?
I’ve only recently been able to put a name to it and am embarrassed to post admitting it. I’m happy to say I’m at the tail end but I’m married, I’m 51 years of age and although I’ve had silly ‘crushes’ occasionally I thought I’d done with it all, if I’m honest.
Please don’t judge, I’m pretty normal and boring but would love to know if any others have any stories to tell, thanks ?

I thought it was about Liberace when I first saw the title ? I wouldn’t have a crush on him
My Mum did!!

Nooooo, jalima Not the gorgeous Rufus in a o***ie. Remember Lord M's awful trousers

I agree, merlotgran - the delicious Rufus would be better without either

Janeainsworth you should have put a health warning on that link! I've got to go and lie down in a darkened room now. grin

The only correct way to fantasise about Monty is in his navy blue linens....and just perhaps with the braces showing!

merlotgran Sun 09-Dec-18 13:04:53

DH has just accused me of limerancing Monty Don. How very dare he.

I would never in my wildest dreams fantasise about Monty in a onesie, especially wearing his holey straw hat. grin

Oh be still my beating heart janeainsworth! Now he's worthy of limerance! grin

Here’s a suggestion for anyone needing someone to limerence about.
Hmmmm! grin

Isn’t this a bit of a mountain out of a molehill and if ashamed why put it on a public forum ?

Jalima1108 Sun 09-Dec-18 12:35:29

Does that mean I’ll have to take down my David Cassidy posters?
Which poster? Or both MawBroon?

Jalima1108 Sun 09-Dec-18 12:29:36

Is she Vera or Lucy petra?

Jalima1108 Sun 09-Dec-18 12:28:15

ooh, must not get too excited thinking about Rufus Sewell in a onesie Bathsheba. wink

I have other things I must do today - can't get sidetracked.

petra Sun 09-Dec-18 12:25:01

Fennel
My OH has a serious crush on, Vera Virasamy (ITV weather girl) I just laugh.

Bathsheba Sun 09-Dec-18 12:24:49

shock be careful Jalima shock

Jalima1108 Sun 09-Dec-18 12:15:18

Can we use limerence as a verb?

As in:
"I really limerence Rufus Sewell"

I'd still limerence him even if he was wearing a onesie smile

sodapop Sun 09-Dec-18 11:50:40

Yes I can see how this could develop as you say Maw. Sometimes our inhibitions go awry and we do or think things that normally we would shy away from.

MawBroon Sun 09-Dec-18 11:19:43

More seriously, when does a crush >infatuation > obsession > stalking situation?

MawBroon Sun 09-Dec-18 11:17:51

Why chewey's limerick was deleted defeats me. confused

I once had a bit of a crush
On a fella OMG he was lush
We had a wee hug
On a tigerskin rug
What happened next?
I'd better say "Hush"

I had to look the term up, but I can remember this happening to someone at work. It was highly embarrassing all round and to be honest the person who went through it was probably the least likely person. Still she survived, we do get over these things.

Violetfloss Sun 09-Dec-18 11:10:40

I've just googled it and it sounds alot more than a crush. It's an infatuation and can be obsessive.
I think what you need to focus on OP is that you ARE over it. It's done and dusted. You can't control emotions so there is no need to feel guilty or embarrassed about it. It's over now and you can move on from it.

Marthjolly1 Sun 09-Dec-18 11:06:07

It's far more than a crush

merlotgran Sun 09-Dec-18 10:51:07

Sounds like the sort of condition that would have had my grandmother reaching for the Andrews liver salts!

henetha Sun 09-Dec-18 09:50:33

It's a strange word, one I had never heard of. When I first read it I thought it was something to do with our Limericks thread. So I Googled it or course, and find it's just modern parlance for a crush. No need to feel embarrased Granny H50 . Most of us have had crushes at some time in our lives, I think. Just put it behind you and move on.
