Limerence ..... the shame and embarrassment of it

I’ve just gone through this and it wasn’t pleasant.
Please can I ask if anyone else has gone through this?
I’ve only recently been able to put a name to it and am embarrassed to post admitting it. I’m happy to say I’m at the tail end but I’m married, I’m 51 years of age and although I’ve had silly ‘crushes’ occasionally I thought I’d done with it all, if I’m honest.
Please don’t judge, I’m pretty normal and boring but would love to know if any others have any stories to tell, thanks ?

I never expected to get such nasty responses. I have been totally honest in my post (my first post, I might add).
I was dreadfully scared to post but I have literally no one in my real life I can share without shocking or surprising them at how I feel.
I was looking for SUPPORT, yes support from ladies perhaps who had gone through similar. Yet what have I received? I’ve been laughed at and belittled!
Seriously how do you think I feel?

GrannyH50 you are still young, why not put your thread on MN you may get some helpful responses.smile

I'm sorry, GrannyH50 but I'm afraid I'm with Maw on this. Giving credence to it by calling it 'limerence' - total psychobabble in my opinion - just encourages people to think of it somehow as being understood and endorsed by psychologists, something one should be able to 'get help for'.
You had a teenage crush, which you really should be able to deal with at your age.

I once had a terrible crush on my PE teacher at Roehampton.

Does that count?

Is that it ? Never heard of it by that fancy name Why not call it what it is
Is someone trying to get people to tell their stories

Charleygirl5 Sat 08-Dec-18 20:44:41

Bit breezy again today.

MawBroon Sat 08-Dec-18 20:38:00

I suggest you read right through the previous thread including the origins of the term.
What we used to call a “crush” (when we were young and foolish)

GrannyH50 Sat 08-Dec-18 20:33:48

I was looking for support here, not judgement.
I feel bad enough as it is and now I’ve tears in my eyes.
This has really upset me.

I suggest a mug of Horlicks and an early night.

TerriBull Sat 08-Dec-18 20:30:33

Annie you need to distinguish your a from your o. Clearly if you mix them up it can get you in all sorts of trouble grin

I thought limerence might be something to do with liquorice, but clearly it isn't, only I never liked liquorice much but that never embarrassed me confused

GrannyH50 Sat 08-Dec-18 20:28:20

What are you suggesting?

GrannyH50 Sat 08-Dec-18 20:27:15

Bless you Annie, I wouldn’t want to shock you. Thanks for making me smile though ?

boheminan Sat 08-Dec-18 20:26:29

After being in a long relationship with a Narcissist, yes I can fully understand what limerence can mean

Anniebach Sat 08-Dec-18 20:23:36

What is it? I am not going to google , it could be similar to when I googled bandage , well thought I had googled bandage

GrannyH50 Sat 08-Dec-18 20:22:30

@Lynn, you learn something every day ?

GrannyH50 Sat 08-Dec-18 20:21:39

Thanks Cherry, at least you knew what I was talking about ?

Lynne59 Sat 08-Dec-18 20:20:32

I'd never heard of that word, and I had to look it up. No, I've no experience of it.

Cherrytree59 Sat 08-Dec-18 20:18:12
