I just wonder what great gifts did my fellow GNs got? Mine was a puppy that my boyfriend got me 3 years ago. We agreed about it completely so it was not a surprise but still I loved this moment so much!

Unfortunately there is no best ( or worst)?gift for me, as Mr L doesn’t do Valentines Day at all, and never has.Saves me looking for a present for him I suppose.

I’m sending my love & good wishes to all on gransnet who might have felt they’ve missed out over the years...
You are loved, you can be sure... not everyone can express to you how they feel?
Each one of us has our own special qualities, even if we don’t know it.
Love ? & Hugs

NotAGran55 a lovely if poignant story. Thanks for sharing it and reminding me that my DGC's other grandpa is having a serious heart operation this week. They are very worried but it may save his life.

DH usually makes me a card and I give him something. I shall pick snowdrops. We were distracted today as I had a front tooth out and the anaesthetic is still wearing off. and he has some worries.
However, by the evening we will have a candlelit meal with wine probably shared with our young French helper..

I couldnt find my v card to my DH last night and had to make one instead. Not done that since primary school.I think I've posted it to someone as a birthday card or binned it Anyway that was fun and will probably make one again for next year.

Yet another day to feel like some sort of a failure, a sort of very mini Christmas.

I remember at work seeing a colleague in some lovely new suede boots. I complimented her on them and she told me they were a Valentines present from her husband. I was shocked - I didn’t know people gave each other presents for Valentine’s Day let alone expensive ones. A romantic gesture from my OH is usually something like a piece of toast cut in a heart shape served with a cup of tea in bed. When I rather pointedly told my OH about my colleague’s boots, he said “some people have more money than sense”.

DH proposed 29 years ago on the 13th - he thought the 14th would have been too cheesey. It was a really romantic moment and so we [well I] always celebrate our engagement anniversary rather than V Day. On our Silver E Anniv, he took me back to the park where he proposed. It was bitterly cold and the wind was horizontal. We tried to find the exact tree but had to pick the nearest one and staggered back to the car laughing. I have told him that next year will be our Pearl. We don't have to go back to the park again but maybe a jeweler's?? Love a pearl.

Mine was my darling dad surviving his quadruple heart by-pass operation on the day . It was 6 weeks after my mum had died suddenly from a massive heart attack in her sleep .
He went on to live another 10 years with his broken but mended ?.

My divorce papers from my first husband landed on the doormat on 14th February. So happy to celebrate getting away from a wife beating little weasel. Happy valentines now with my lovely 2nd husband. I'm making us both a steak and ale pie with veg. Xx

Haven't celebrated Valentine's day in over 50 years, we got married on 17th February and have all our celebrations then.

Lunch has been booked and a card bought ready to celebrate the 17th February.

I was very happy to receive a card on St Valentine’s day, and really miss it now.

I had gone out with a man for some time, and felt we were going nowhere. Some time later I became involved with another man, and we were engaged. On Valentine's day I had a card with the most romantic and wonderful message from the man I thought didn't care...but by that time I had commited to life with my soon to be DH. What if I had know how he felt a year or so previously? I wonder?

Gaunt47 Thu 13-Feb-20 15:56:12

I've been lucky over the years to receive some wonderful and generous Valentine's gifts, but the best one was years ago when my boyfriend at the time and I were penniless students. He wrote me a love poem and I still have it.

Annaram1 your post made me want to cry. Alzheimers is the worst disease in the world isn't it? But then I thought what a lucky lady you were to have such a loving husband and that made me smile ?. We all have to cherish the memories

My DH has never missed Valentines day and we got engaged on that day 37yrs ago Long may it continue

I had given my house key to my new boyfriend as he was going to fix my ill fitting door. On arriving home tired from work, my jaw dropped when I walked into my kitchen and saw that every work surface was covered with goodies, ie boxes of chocolates, wine, and flowers, as well as really useful food, like fruit, veg and tinned food, etc. At that time I was struggling to pay my mortgage and had to really cut down the spending on my groceries. When I saw what he had bought me, I broke down and cried.

Mr L, aka Timmy Tightcheeks, has never once managed to send me a Valentine card, far less a gift.
But a long long time ago a teenage boyfriend had a record played for me on a Valentine's radio show.
The song was Baby's Got Blue Eyes. So romantic!

Funnygran Thu 13-Feb-20 15:26:47

I’ve had some flowers this morning although we don’t really go for Valentines Day and DH never sends cards on any occasion. But on the first Valentines after we met in 1967 he penned a romantic little verse and wrote it on a beermat! I kept it for years until it fell to bits.

Tickledpink Thu 13-Feb-20 15:14:42

We don’t celebrate it, but my husband had a vasectomy on 14/2/90 and that’s his ongoing valentines gift to me! I have a heart shaped cake tin and have made a cake or two over the years to show my appreciation!

Growing0ldDisgracefully Thu 13-Feb-20 15:04:01

We married on Valentine's Day so the best gift has been loving each other (apart from an occasional glitch!), since then. He does also buy me flowers, chocolates, wine and other gifts as well.
This year's gift is a pair of solid silver lacemaking bobbins, which I shall very much enjoy using .
