Married for a passport and Dowry Abuse

A woman I worked with had an arranged marriage and she hadn’t even met her future husband who lived in India. She was quite happy about it and said she trusted her parents. Different culture, different norms I guess.

I am aware this might be an obscure topic but I hope someone will know what I am going on about,
Has anyone ever realised too late that their partner had married them in order to gain a UK passport? and on top of that realised that the behaviour of their partner and partners family is because they did not get a dowry? I have found out this is called dowry abuse and is common in countries such as India. It happens here but most people including the police and support services dont know about it. Anyone had it or known someone who has please?
