I was 24 and he was a bit short of 23. We got together seven months later and married two and a half years after that. Now 79 (me- today!) and 77 (him - he will be 78 in November. Married fiftyone and a half years.

Just think how, many hours, weeks and years of wedded bliss are represented by this thread. smile

Knew each other from High School, got together when I was 17 and Mr Happy was 18, engaged after 6 weeks, married 2 yrs later when both 20 (me just). Golden wedding anniversary later this year. If you asked me to describe our life together I would have to say it has never been boring 🀣

I was 17 and still at school, he was 27. That would probably be unacceptable today.
I was my sister's chief bridesmaid he was the groom's best man.
It's our golden wedding anniversary this year.
The age difference mattered less and less as we got older

Set up on a blind date just before my 16th birthday. Got married 10 years later when I was expecting DS1 (easier at the time for parental responsibility!) and still together now after almost 37 years. He's my best friend and a genuinely nice person.

I was 19 and he was 22. We got married when I was 22 and have been together ever since. We're chalk and cheese but we still get on and have 8 grandchildren 3 of whom live nearby and the other 5 are not too far away either. We're very lucky

Nice thread to read.
We met when I was 19, he was 20. Decided to get married 3 months later, got engaged 8 months after we met and married 2 years after we met.
We're currently on holiday celebrating our golden wedding anniversary. 50 years! A shopkeeper said β€œoh, you could have murdered him 3 times and still been out!” 🀣

Met at a student ball, he 18 ,me ,20 .We married two years later in 1967 and he is all I ever wanted in a spouse. I only pray that in our 57th year.of marriage he would say the same of me.

I was 23 husband was 29. Got married when I was 25, had our first child 9 months later, 2nd at 28 and 3rd at 30. We’ve been married 39 years. He drives me mad being at home all day. He loves gardening but the weather has been so awful he’s not managed to get out in the garden much. I’ll be glad when the weather improves and he’s happy in the garden.

We were both 12 and met through a mutual friend. Married at 19 and it was our 55th Wedding Anniversary yesterday. I often introduce him as my first husband, keeps him on his toes grin

Did any of you marry anyone significantly younger?

Me. My husband is nearly 11 years younger.

Snowbell Fri 19-Apr-24 23:39:19

We were both 5 years old at infant school. Our birthdays were on the same day. We were friends until our families moved apart when we were 14 and we went our separate ways. Reconnected through Friends Reunited in 2002 and got married on our joint 50th birthday. Sadly he died suddenly 8 years ago.

I was 22, he was 26. We met at a party of a mutual friend, booked a date at the registry office two months later and married 5 months after we met. 44 years this September, and some of my family said it would never last!

dustyangel Fri 19-Apr-24 18:47:16

I think I can beat you Willow500. DH and I were both 9 when we started at a new school that opened in January just before the March that we were both 10. We went our separate ways after the eleven plus and didn’t meet up again until we were both 22. Married seven months later and have been married for 57 years now.

Mazy Fri 19-Apr-24 18:07:13

I was 14 he was 18 when we met. We married at 16 and 20.
51 years later we are loving each other more each day. When you know, you know .

Delia22 - I didn’t know anyone who married young except us so "most of our friends married young" does not apply in our case.

All our friends post-university were 8-10 years older than us and most still are. We had children young too (I took my finals whilst 9 months pregnant) and had no friends with children.

Obviously we made new friends once we had children through the children really (and through campaigning).

I do know a number of our university friends who married pretty much straight after university so at 21 or 22... Some are still together - some not.
