Met when I was nearly 19 and he was 23……married in 1964 when I was 21 and he was 25……amazingly still together and we’ve been married for 60 years now…..heaven knows how! I guess the explanation could be that we have lived in three different countries since we married, and have had 10 different homes. But his redeeming quality that must have kept us together all these years is that we each have different hobbies throughout the year and we aren’t ’joined at the hip’. By thst I mean we have individual friends related to our interests as well as the normal couple friends. Unquestionably we both feel very fortunate that now we have reached our 80’s we are still living in our own home that’s perfectly suited for this time in our lives, we live close to family and grandchildren, and we have each other around for day to day company..

Ist marriage met when i was 14, he 17 , at boarding school near me. Married 10 years later. 3 children. Largely happy years, but both troubled pasts. Divorce 30 years later. Massive shock to me and years to get truth . All pretty traumatic, to whole family. Married again 3 years ago, longer relationship, but never envisaged it, probably a mistake. Im younger and seen as a nurse and purse . All happened in lockdown whrn everything changed. But I'm grateful he put me in the picture as to what was going on with my ex . I had no idea, for years andchildren did.
Now im in possession of all facts and minus quite alot of money, family fragmentation and me a carer.
But im stronger and still have choices . Life’s complicated but im determined too enjoy it !

I was not quite 19 and DH was 23 - both in the Army. We married a year later, suddenly faced with me being posted to one side of the world and him to the other; we couldn’t face the thought of being separated. We had fifty six good years together before he died two years ago.

Met at dancing. Had an amazing ten days together whilst we were both on demarkation leave, he RAF for Germany and Malta for me with WRNS. 7 years later we had an unexpected encounter in a city street and married 6 months later. We had 30 wonderful years before he died totally unexpectedly.

I was 16, still at school between O and A levels, DH was 2 months short of 21.
We met on holiday, and lived over 20 miles apart. ā€œCourtedā€ for 4 years, engaged at 19, married 2 months before I was 21. My dear Father told me I could have a 21st birthday party or a wedding, I chose wedding and did my own 21st! We celebrate 57th Anniversary later this year.

I met my husband at age 22, he was 21 (6 months age difference). We married at age 24. Our Ruby anniversary was last August 2023. We both struck lucky, I reckon. Wouldn’t swap him.

Second marriage- but best thing I ever did! 33(me) & dh 39 celebrating 39 yrs together this year. No one thought we would last!

Delia22 Fri 19-Apr-24 16:15:18

Amazing that those who met their 'the one' as teenagers have stayed together.Really lovely! Certainly teenagers today seem ,in the main,to be too immature for long term commitment.Still I suppose you can,t generalise and I think today there is so much emphasis on further education.I have to agree with the poster who stated "most of our friends married young"!

My DH knew of me when at High School but I wasn't aware of him. Only when both working did we meet and that was it. 22 for me and 23 for him. Together until he died two years ago.

Lovemylife Fri 19-Apr-24 14:15:21

Married at 29 and divorced with three children at 37. Married with another baby at 44. It’s our twenty fifth wedding anniversary soon but he’s very poorly with anxiety and I don’t think he’s up celebrating.

Hollycat Fri 19-Apr-24 14:09:01

We were both 18 when we met, engaged at 19, married at 20 (58 years ago)

Musicgirl Fri 19-Apr-24 14:08:33

grandtanteJE65 Fri 19-Apr-24 13:56:23

48 - we had both obviously had other relationships prior to meeting each other, but I had not been married previously, and we were both out of former relationships when we met.

hazel93 Fri 19-Apr-24 13:44:55

Gosh, amazed at how many of you married so young ! And good luck to you !
I only know of one friend still married while we are at Uni.

twinnytwin Fri 19-Apr-24 13:39:58

Met at 16 (he was a month younger than me), married at 21, divorced at 32 (he cheated). Met the love of my life at 40 and we've been married 30 years. There was no way our parents would have agreed for us to live together without marriage. Times change, thank goodness.
