I met my ex husband when I was 15 on a blind date. He was 16.
Love at first sight.
He turned out to be a liar and cheat. Left for someone he worked with.
Divorced Jan 1990 or 1991 can't remember which.

I’m sure many of us married young because that’s what you did back then. You weren’t allowed to spend the night together, go on holiday on your own etc, and certainly not sleep together in your parents home!

But also, our expectations were nothing like those of today’s young generation. We didn’t expect to start off with homes better than what our parents ended up with, and just worked our way up.

Also accepted that our love lives were not going to be a Mills and Boon romance. Real life stepped in.

This is so true and most of it resonates with me.Apart from the "could not spend the night before the wedding" .We did,but at my insistence, after getting engaged! I wasn,t living at home then......shared a flat with another two girls.DH shared with a male work colleague. So I sometimes spent the night when his colleague was away! Naughty!

I was 18 and he was 20. We married when I was 19 and he was 21. That was 54 years ago. How time flies!!!

NannyBarbie Fri 19-Apr-24 11:38:40

I was 23 (nearly 24) & he was 21. Met at a party 🥳
We're still together 41years later and still love each other as much as we did back then.

I was 23 and DH was 28. We married a year later and have just celebrated our 55th wedding anniversary. Long may it continue.

No you’re not. Despite us being together over 50 years I do find him very frustrating at times and I should have listened to my mum.
I can’t imagine many teens nowadays deciding they’ve found the right partner so soon.

I was 43 and he was 39 !
30 years later still together not married. Plodding on !!!!

Married at 19 to late husband aged 38. Some hiccups but he passed away exactly a month after his 80th birthday and after 42 years of marriage. Some regrets throughout but determination on my part to stay the course.

JANH Fri 19-Apr-24 12:14:11

I was 19 and he was 21, engaged 11 months later but didn’t marry until I was 23. We didn’t live together however were saving up to buy a property and it those days, you married first before living together. We celebrate 49 years, this year. Many friends told us that our marriage wouldn’t work, we have our arguments like any normal couple but understand each other very well.

29 (just) and 39 (almost 40). Married 22 years this year. I’m the older one 🫣

Spuddy Fri 19-Apr-24 12:32:18

I'm now 58 and hubby will be 63 in August but we were 42 and 46 when we first met in September 2007. Married February 2011. First marriage for us both!

Josiebear Fri 19-Apr-24 12:34:27

We met at 17, started dating at 18, engaged at 19,he was Royal Navy so the Falklands war disrupted year 20!, married at 21, pregnant at 22, baby girl at 23! We’re now 61 and easing gently into our retirement!

Cherylrov Fri 19-Apr-24 12:45:03

16 and 18 for us can’t believe it really as when my kids were that age they had no idea about life ! We are still together now though so it must have been right for us. Husband still reminds me of when I tried to defrost a chicken in front of the gas fire at our first flat. It’s a wonder we survived !

Lookout01 Fri 19-Apr-24 12:47:17

We met at my place of work and he was on a summer break from uni, I had just turned 21 and he was 18 months older. We moved in together a year later and I married him at 26 in 1987. 38 years married now with 3 children and 4 grandchildren

Bessieb Fri 19-Apr-24 12:54:45

I was 19 and DH was 32. Got engaged 3 weeks later and married a year after that. We've been married for 43 years. Not bad considering some people said it wouldn't last. 😀

Lookout01 Fri 19-Apr-24 12:56:14

Oops! Sorry 37 years! 🤦

greenlady102 Fri 19-Apr-24 13:12:14

I was 14, he was 17. He waited until I was 17 to ask me out.

orly Fri 19-Apr-24 13:28:06

We were both 18 in 1975 and been together ever since and married for the last 44 years. I've decided to give it another 44 years to see how it goes

twinnytwin Fri 19-Apr-24 13:39:58

Met at 16 (he was a month younger than me), married at 21, divorced at 32 (he cheated). Met the love of my life at 40 and we've been married 30 years. There was no way our parents would have agreed for us to live together without marriage. Times change, thank goodness.

hazel93 Fri 19-Apr-24 13:44:55

Gosh, amazed at how many of you married so young ! And good luck to you !
I only know of one friend still married while we are at Uni.

grandtanteJE65 Fri 19-Apr-24 13:56:23

48 - we had both obviously had other relationships prior to meeting each other, but I had not been married previously, and we were both out of former relationships when we met.
