Gay wedding-have you been to one?

Yes, it involved exactly the same as a straight wedding, except it was less boring, and nobody dressed up, which suited me just fine.
Bride one wore a dress from her wardrobe, bride two wore denim shorts and a t shirt from her wardrobe.

Last year a gay friend/in law by marriage married his partner if 10 years. Their 6 year old son was involved in the ceremony. Many tears of joy that this was possible

Both my daughters are gay, both sons straight, wonder step-daughter straight, makes no difference to any of us, we barely think about it!

My best friend's son is gay and now has a Brazilian husband. We didn't attend the wedding as it was in New Zealand where they were living at the time, but they have now moved to England to be close to my friend whose husband died a couple of years ago.

I knew and loved her son before he went to NZ, and he has now brought immense joy to our lives with his lovely husband. They are so kind, loving and delightful; they insist we are family, not just friends, and we in turn adore them.

So if you are lucky enough to be invited to a gay wedding, do go - I'm sure you won't regret it.

Why would I be uncomfortable?

I went to the wedding of two very good friends I had known for years. They had been together since the year dot and were very happy that they could celebrate their relationship in this way.
Only one of their parents was still alive and she did not attend as she didn't know that her son was in a gay relationship and would have been shocked.
It was a lovely ceremony and everyone was very relaxed. The reception was a great opportunity to catch up with friends.
It never crossed my mind to feel uncomfortable.
The only time I felt uncomfortable at a wedding was at an over elaborate, pretentious do where the bride's and the groom's family were obviously at odds. The marriage lasted less than a year.

My daughter and her beautiful wife got married last month.

I was invited to the wedding of my great nephew and his now husband but refused the invitation as it was too soon after DH had died and I couldn’t face it without him. I know we would both have enjoyed it though. I’ve since spent much time with these two lovely young men and am proud to be related to them. I can’t imagine ever feeling uncomfortable with them or their friends.

Yes I went to one a couple of months ago. It was a lovely occasion filled with joy but I am a bit biased as one of the grooms was my son!

Yes, it was a lovely wedding just like any other.

Yes we have attended a gay wedding and it was wonderful to see two people so in love and wanting to make that commitment to sharing their life together. Rather sad if it makes people feel uncomfortable.

Why might it be uncomfortable?

About 4 years ago we were invited to the wedding of our neighbours. They are lovely young men that I became friends with after chatting about their garden. To be honest I just viewed it as a lovely event for two lovely friends, and enjoyed it.

We were invited (I think) in lieu of family who have pretty much disowned them. It's almost like having two extra GCs, as they are much of an age, and one of them is in and out of our house almost daily.

MrA was not very comfortable, as he's not comfortable at all with gay men. He doesn't dislike them as people or want them to be different, I think it's just his puritanical background kicking in. He did his best to join in and be happy but I'm pretty sure he was very happy to get home away from it all 😄

Yes, and it was one of the best weddings I've ever been to (apart from my son's and my daughter's). It was a glorious day - why would I not have felt comfortable?
