Talking of being married in white, should you really have done it ( if you did)?

The talk of Queen Camilla and other royals being married in white made me wonder how many ‘impure’ white brides there were when I married. I know I only made it on a technicality!
I know when contemporaries of mine were married ‘at short notice’, they often wore bridal regalia, but in pastel shades. Others wore coat and dress ensembles, usually with hat, and baby usually arrived about 6 months later!
Changed days now, when the couple’s children are often pages or bridesmaids at mum and dad’s wedding.
So, what about you?
( You can ‘no comment’ if you wish, but we’ll know! 😀)

I wore white and we had been living together for three years - don't care who knows it!

I wore cream and no comment.

So basically the OP is asking who walked down the aisle a virgin.

I find this a little bizarre.

I wore cream, with four of our children in attendance it would have been wrong to wear white.

DD has not forgiven us for having her after we married, as she is miffed her brothers are in the wedding photos and she isn’t 🙀

I wore white because that was what most people wore , I didn’t really consider anything else .

TerriBull your comment about men not wearing white is very true.
There are probably more women now who would traditionally not be ‘entitled’ to wear white. However it has been so for many many years.

Yes, wore white, and entitled to!

Register Office wedding. I wore black and white.

I wore a dress and coat in off-white 😀 Actually, it was more bridal-looking than I’d intended, but I had spent a whole day in London looking for something to wear for my registry office wedding, and this outfit was very flattering. I was tired of shopping, so I bought it.

With one 3 year old and another on the way, there didn't seem a lot of point really! The white symbolism supposedly representing purity was outmoded b****cks even then. Do men wear white, no! Because as we know they're almost expected to have been around the block a few times.

I had a white wedding dress and 7ft veil and train .
First baby born 3 years later .smile It's sad that times have changed and no one thinks
Anything of having children before marriage now .

I wore a pale blue long dress which my bridesmaid made, (she was an excellent needlewoman).

I didn’t want a big white wedding as my dad had died suddenly a little while before, it was the first family occasion since his funeral. I was going to just wear a suit, not sure why I decided not to.

It was 1972, and looking back, I wish I had bought a floaty, flowery Laura Ashley dress as it would have been ‘of its time’, but we lived in the sticks, no LA store anywhere in the county, and I probably hadn’t heard of her anyhow back then!

Ah well, 52 years later…..

I wore white. DS1 was born 10 months later.

I was definitely entitled to wear white - I was a virgin

I got married in red - and we weren't living together! I wore the dress and coat many times over the years.

Usedtobeblonde Fri 29-Nov-24 12:52:32

First child was born 8 years later.

Usedtobeblonde Fri 29-Nov-24 12:51:55

I did wear white, with a veil over my face but whether I should have done is nobody’s business but mine😉

I wore purple for one and a mix of colours for the second. Never had any interest in the big white wedding dress and wore a very trendy purple outfit with boots for my first. I was a very fashionable teenager at the time. On the morning of my first wedding the hairdresser asked if I was doing anything nice later. She nearly had kittens when I said I was getting married. She did do my hair beautifully and spent so long on it I was worried id be late for the ceremony. My second wedding was even more low-key, my abiding memories are my new MIL dressed in black from head to foot and my sons arguing about who got the biggest ice-cream when we went for a meal. It was still a nice day.

Married in the Registry Office in 1969. I had a pink dress from Rackham's in Birmingham.

Astitchintime Fri 29-Nov-24 12:38:17

I wore white but my dad didn't think it appropriate that I have the veil over my face.........hmm

sodapop Fri 29-Nov-24 12:33:32

Cream suit with an expanded waistband smile

Anniebach Fri 29-Nov-24 12:31:07

Marg75 Fri 29-Nov-24 12:26:26

I wore white, we weren't living together but.............

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 29-Nov-24 12:21:50

I wore white. No baby on the way but we were ‘living’ together.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 29-Nov-24 12:16:23

Queen Camilla did not wear white when she married King Charles, she wore grey.
