Judy 54 is right - what’s your pleasure?

I hate anything where I’m the centre of attraction and at 60, my DDs came to take me for lunch. As we parked, I spotted my old school frirnd’s car reg and my heart sank, knowing they’d sprung a bit of a surprise.

At 70, during Covid, my DH had died a few days before my birthday and was to be cremated a few days afterwards. Memorable, but not in a good way.

I can’t remember anything about my 80th birthday. I suppose it was during the Covid pandemic. I’m 85 now.

I had an evening meal out with my surviving child and family. That was on my actual birthday. Several days later I entertained several dear friends for dinner at a local hotel.
The following week I took a friend out for lunch as she was unable to come to the dinner. A quietly celebrated, but memorable birthday.

I have one coming up soon. I'm organising it all, as I have my previous two significant birthdays.
I certainly wouldn't leave it to my children to organise...

What would you like to do Struthruth ? It's your special day what would make it feel special for you? Perhaps a quiet get together with family or friends, Afternoon Tea, a lovely meal to share. Or is a big gathering more your thing, if so go wild and have a big party. So many different ways to celebrate, choose what is right for you and have a lovely day!

I had a big birthday last year. I usually spend my birthdays just with my children and their families, but last year I wanted to invite all my close friends and neighbours.
I went away with the family to West Wales the weekend of my Birthday and the following Saturday I had my extended family, friends and neighbours for a Buffet at our local pub. My guests had the first glass of Prosecco on me. If they wanted anymore, they had to buy it themselves 😂. I think everyone enjoyed. And the best part - my children footed the Bill. Win win !!

Happy 80th birthday StruthRuth

I'll send you some 💐, 🥂🍾 and a big 🎂 with 80 on it (not 80 candles!).

80 is the new 60 btw.

Its 80!! Remember organising my mums 80th. Always sort out my own birthdays but sort of feel that 80 requires a bit more fuss. Think it was often left to daughters to arrange something, What experiences have single gransnetters had with the big birthdays?
