Relating to a teenager?

In recent years, my teenage granddaughter will not stop talking about all these new internet fads such as; skibidi toilet; six seven; tung tung tung sahor; and so many more.

I feel disconnected from her as I just can’t seem to understand why these are so popular. Any tips to understand this new wave of the internet?

Ask her to explain them to you

Do you really need to understand these trends? Can you just say 'that's nice, dear' and change the subject.

By the time you have understood she will have moved on! Part of the excitement of it all is that you don’t understand, don’t worry about it and stick to just being you. That’s the bit she really loves!

Ask AI to explain it to you.

I have teenage GCs and is an alien language just let it all go over your head and enjoy being with them.

Just don't express an opinion- say yabba dabba doo! or any other phrase you used to use. Teenagers aren't aliens, find something to do or talk about together.

OP, however, you were able to remember, write and spell correctly these new internet fads which you do not understand, so well done you !

I do not understand the six seven thing either. Enjoy the chats.

My eight year old DGD started saying six seven and even Silly Billy in the pantomime we took her to kept saying it! Apparently it was started by some American baseball star. She hasn’t said it recently so hopefully it was just a fad, until the next one comes along!
