Have you ever had a moment when the hair on the back of your head stood up. I have had a couple.
We had a neighbour Called Mr.Reid who was a lovely elderly gentleman. He was in charge of the older children at the church who were in their teens our two being among them and he was much loved. He moved away to be near his son and sadly died a little time later. My daughter had done well at school and I kept thinking how I wished I could have told Mr. Reid. However time passed then one night I had a thought going through my head all night . I kept wishing that we had had keepsake to remind us of him I was really disturbed all night .
The next morning being Saturday we had gone off shopping leaving the family at home. When we came home there was a box of ornaments in the hall. When I asked the kids what it was that said that a friend had dropped it off for them to pick something as it had come from Mr. Reid's house . When I questioned the person who had left the box she said that it had been lying around her house for ages and she had only then got round to sorting it out. That was spooky.

My daughter and sil went on a boat trip with my granddaughters who were aged four and one. Later they stopped at an old pub to have lunch. My eldest granddaughter climbed up the stairs to an unused part of the hotel. She came down very white faced and frightened and told her mother she had seen a ghost. My daughter said 'that's wonderful, was it white like Casper.' My granddaughter said 'no, it was grey.' Later my daughter went and spoke to the publican and told him about my granddaughter seeing a ghost. He said 'you mean the grey lady!'

I've never seen a ghost, but one weekend we went away in the caravan for a weekend without the children. We stayed in a small enclosure near a ruined tower at the edge of a cliff in Fife. out of sight of any houses. In the middle of the night I woke with the strongest sense of being willed to leave, we were definitely not wanted there. I spent a fairly sleepless night. Over breakfast my DH asked "shall we stay here again tonight or move on?" He too had felt the same sensation.

When we walked down the path to the shore, we noticed a blocked tunnel entrance just below where we were parked. It had once been used by smugglers - and I am sure their spirits were still on watch for intruders.

I once woke up in a hotel to see a woman in a hat and coat holding a shopping bag standing by the bed. I screamed and pulled the duvet over my head. My husband assured me I was just dreaming and I happily went back to sleep. Telling a friend later, she said did I remember that it had been a chest hospital before being converted. Had I seen a hospital visitor from the 50s or 60s ? her hat and coat suggested she might have been.

My granddaughter who must have been just over 2 at the time and I were playing in the sitting room and she looked towards the stairs in the hall and asked who the man was coming down the stairs. I heard the stairs creaking but couldn't see anyone! I asked her to describe him but she didn't have the language. After a while she told me he'd gone. This has happened more than once but I haven't seen anything. I did find it rather spooky. When we first moved into our current house many years ago now both my daughter and I heard a child laughing from time to time though this hasn't happened for many years now.
I've never seen a ghost but I do believe that strong feelings of someone can be absorbed into their surroundings; perhaps this weakens over time. Whether that constitutes a ghost or not I don't know.

My brother was just one year old when our greatgrandmother died.About two years after whenever he went to my gradmother's house he would always go into the back bedroom to see his nana who was in bed there. We called our greatgrandma nana and she had died in that bedroom. He would tell my mother and grandma that nana talks to him. When nana died my brother could not talk, so was unaware we called her nana.
My DIL said her niece used to talk about the lady with the blue hair who lives at her grandma's.My DIL's mother and stepfather now live in her stepfather's parent's house. Her stepfather's mother always had a blue rinse on her hair. She died many years before DIL's niece was born.
I once heard that as young children we can all see spirits but that ability leaves us when we pass out of early childhood. When I hear these stories I can belive it.

In the weeks after my mother died, my teenage daughter woke me early one morning to describe to me a vivid dream she had - she dreamt she was in our house and looked through the window to see my mom in a rose garden, she seemed happy and peaceful, content, and looked up at my daughter and came towards the window with a smile. My daughter was so happy to see her, and reached her hand out, as did my mother, as they were about to clasp hands the picture vanished. What makes it a spooky moment, is that when my daughter described it to me, she described my mother in detail as she was when she very young (not as my daughter would ever have known her) - but she had no doubt it was her gran the moment she saw the woman in the garden.

A number of years ago we bought a framed Pharmaceutical Certificate from a carboot sale which we hung on our downstairs cloakroom wall to complement all the medicine bottles and eye baths we have on display.

We were watching television one winters evening when we heard a loud bang from within the cloakroom. I discovered the certificate on the floor. The floor has ceramic tiles and the picture had fallen from a height of approx 6ft. It appeared that the hanging cord had broken but the frame and the glass were suprisingly undamaged.

As I checked it over shivers ran down my spine. The certificate was dated January 8th 1938 and the date was.........January 8th 2006.

Spooky?

I thought it was time we revived this thread as I like to read other people's spooky stories. About a month ago in the middle of the night while staying at D2's house I could hear one of GS's toys going, it is a toy train that youngest GD plays with. It went for awhile then it stopped. The next morning D2 said she had gotten up to turn it off and went into the room where the toy was and switched it off and as she turned to go back to bed an Iggle Piggle toy which was not even near her started up. Just over a week ago, while looking after D1's house while they were away overseas, my friend of 40 years came to stay for a week, to keep me company as I had to look after the animals etc. After the first night she said there was a toy that must turned on and she was wondering when I was going to get up and switch it off. I didn't wake up and hear it so it must have turned off by itself. I checked the toys and she told me which one it was, it was a different toy in a different room from the previous two toys. Then today I am now at D2's house, Sil was at work and just as D2 drove out the drive to take GDs to a birthday party I could hear a toy was saying 'come and play' over and over. I eventually found the noise was coming from the bathroom. I couldn't find it, the toys are bath toys and barbies that GD4 likes to play with while she has a bath. I know if the batteries are low toys can start up but this is annoying, especially in the middle of the night. confused

Creepy faye
My iPad has no calendar settings for March 2013. It goes straight from February to April. Apple IT support have been unable to restore that month. I think I'd better make sure my will is up to date!!! [ghost] emoticon.

I went to visit my grandmother when she was near the end of her life, she was in bed and told me it would be the last time I saw her as she had seen her husband and one of her sons (both deceased) who had come to show her the way. She died that night.

About 17 years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer, the night before I was due to go into hospital I woke to find my father standing at the side of my bed (at that time he had been dead for 10 years)

I have suffered with insomnia for several years and when my husband was alive he used to try to help me sleep by stroking my hair. The other night I was in bed unable to sleep when I felt a breeze across my hair, no windows or doors were open at the time.

Nanadogsbody Sat 13-Oct-12 14:35:47

barrow I hope you found that reassuring?

Barrow Sat 13-Oct-12 14:45:54

Nanadb Yes I did find it reassuring. My sister in law is completely freaked by it and now won't even come into the house. I like to think he is still here watching over me.

When we used to watch boxed sets of a TV programme he liked to press the "play all" button whereas I liked to press the "choose episode" button. For the whole week after he died if I tried to play "choose episode" it wouldn't work, only the "play all" button worked. Then it went back to normal. I think it was him playing one of his jokes!

Nanadogsbody Sat 13-Oct-12 14:58:10

barrow although I am a confirmed non-believer in higher deities there are some things that I have experienced in the last 3 years and 10 months that make me think again. Strange things like toys setting themselves off, windmills whirling on still days, a feeling of someone being there, and a ghosting in a picture that wasn't physically possible.
It's made me wonder......

Every night after my father died eight years ago, I could feel something blowing on my cheek, it would happen around 7pm while I was on the Internet and at the time I was living alone. It happened for over a week and one night I thought this is ridiculous and really had a good look to see if there was a breeze coming in, but it was a distinctive blowing on my cheek and there was no window open. Then I got scared and it stopped. A few years later I was helping my ex partner pull down a pergola. I was carrying some wood to put in a trailer and I saw my father standing near the back of this house my ex partner owned watching me. It was only seconds but he had on clothes he used to wear thirty years ago when he helped my ex husband and me when we were working on our house.

I don't believe in God either nanadb especially a personal God who looks out for you, but it's made me believe there is much more going on than we can imagine.

Barrow and Nanadb. flowers

My Mother died in a hospital in France 5 years ago. DH and I were over to visit her during the last few weeks, we left the hospital one night and she had slept the whole of that day. We were sleeping in what had been her room in her house in a tiny remote village, and at three in the morning there was a clawing and hammering at the doors and windows,we leaped out to look, and there was absolutely nobody there. My Mother died an hour or so later.

Nanadogsbody Sat 13-Oct-12 16:57:38

Grannyeggs Sat 13-Oct-12 17:00:40

Nanadogsbody Sat 13-Oct-12 17:08:27

jeni Sat 13-Oct-12 17:39:55

A few days after my DH died I was crying myself to sleep, when I felt a distinct firm pressure on my right shoulder! It felt comforting, and it was just what he used to do! Weird but good!

I grew up in a haunted house. Doors would open (OK that could have been a draught) and then close again. The handles would turn. Footsteps could be heard upstairs and voices in the front room.

When my girls were young we lived in a house on a modern estate. I didn't like the shadow shape on the landing. My girls said it was a man. Turns out the estate was built on a bombsite. Our house was more or less where a communal shelter that had received a direct hit had been.

My current house has an old man in it. He's harmless and made me feel welcome. The house next door is empty but we hear muffled voices through the wall and the sound of children laughing. A neighbour was walking home when she happened to look up at her house. A woman was cleaning the window in her bedroom. She rushed in to catch the burglar although she couldn't think why the woman would be cleaning the window. There was no one there and to make it worse the window was still dirty. My neighbour said she wouldn't mind having a ghost that did the housework lol.

A couple of years ago I was very ill with a chest infection. My grandma came to look after me although she'd been dead for years.

My eldest daughter lives in a house that has a young girl in it. Sometimes you can catch a glimpse of her on the stairs. Also she was walking past the convent when she saw some penguins coming towards her. She was surprised because our local nuns wear ordinary clothes. Anyway as she walked towards them the nuns turned into what she assumed was a gate through the wall but when she got there the wall was solid but there was a bricked up gateway.

My GD used to talk about Debbie when she was very small. In fact Debbie was the first word she said. We thought Debbie must work at the nursery but she didn't. If she wanted something she would often say 'Debbie will get it.' My daughter said she often heard her talking to Debbie when she was in her cot at night. GD used to ask to go to Debbie's house and get upset when we couldn't take her. Then one day they were in town walking past some old houses and GD got very excited pointing to Debbie's house. She's nearly 4 now and doesn't mention Debbie anymore.

My mum lives in a modern bungalow but every now and then you can smell my dad's tobacco smoke or lilies which were the favourite flowers of my aunt.

My MIL told us that many years ago, she was alone in the house, FIL working nights, she's just got into bed when she heard footsteps coming up the stairs, the bedroom door opened and a tall dark figured entered the room, took a look around (there was light from a street lamp outside) and left, again she heard the footsteps going downstairs. She was too terrified to move but eventually she went downstairs to check the door which was still locked and windows closed! When she mentioned this to her GP he recommended that her husband should stop working night shifts, as he put it down to "nervous disposition"! She has since seen an old lady in her bedroom on various occasions, but as she's now on strong painkillers, we are not sure whether she's just having vivid dreams ....confused

I've a friend who loves baking and her DH of 40 odd years had bought her an electric food mixer for her birthday, the kind on a stand with its own bowl, which she always left on her kitchen counter, ready for use. He died within a year and around the time of their anniversary the first year she was alone, a family member came to stay overnight with her because M was so sad. Her and the friend were both woken, sound asleep in different rooms, by the sound of the electric mixer whirring away at 5 a.m. on the anniversary day.

Here's another one - husband and I stopped at a country hotel on a dark and misty night, taking a chance, broke our journey due to bad weather. We're told the hotel is full, but then the receptionist and other staff member have a little conflab and eventually we're told 'okay, there is a room'. Fast asleep in the early hours of the morning, I'm awoken by what felt like something/someone walking across the bottom of the bed. Sat bolt upright, husband - who is scared of nothing and no one, leaps up, says "What was that?" He had experienced it too. We put the light on, checked the room, windows were shut tight, door locked. Nothing there. We struggled to settle down back to sleep, bit unnerved. Next morning, told the staff, who exchanged knowing looks ... we were out of there as fast as can be!
