Why is this woman allowed to lecture us on Thought for the Day? She is so damned patronising and her only qualifications appears to be that she is married to a vicar. Her voice makes me want to scream.

That should keep you quiet for a little while. grin wink

JO4 Wed 25-Jul-12 19:10:25

Bags I don't "do" the Old Testament. you read this lot (no pun intended) and try to sort it out! shock

Anagram Wed 25-Jul-12 18:38:31

Of course, absent, but nobody would have understood or accepted the message unless it was expressed in the current way of thinking. (IMO, of course!)

Anagram Wed 25-Jul-12 18:36:16

Well, yes, Bags, but the actual writers probably relflected the attitudes and mores of their time.

Anagram There are plenty of people, not necessarily extreme in their religious views, who believe the Bible genuinely is the word of God. Some word for word, some in a slightly more narrative way.

Nonu Wed 25-Jul-12 18:32:04

Wrong , DID he have sisters ?

Nonu Wed 25-Jul-12 18:30:55

Dis he have sisters ?

Bags Wed 25-Jul-12 18:29:43

And some people do say it's the word of god.

Bags Wed 25-Jul-12 18:29:08

That's true, nag, I suppose. Doesn't mean it isn't a nasty book in many places though.

Anagram Wed 25-Jul-12 18:26:12

Neither God nor Jesus wrote the Bible, though, did they?

absentgrana Wed 25-Jul-12 18:24:03

Isn't interesting that we know that this woman apparently turned into a pillar of salt is "Lot's wife" – not Sally, Caroline, Gladys, Geraldine, Rachel or Sarah? What about Jesus' sisters? We know the names of his brothers.

Anagram Wed 25-Jul-12 18:22:24

Not your post about Lot's wife, of course, Bags. Just Nonu's! grin

Anagram Wed 25-Jul-12 18:21:05

I'll just ignore it then.

Bags Wed 25-Jul-12 18:19:30

Oh! just realised. It was Lot's wife, wasn't it? Oh well, what the heck? Anyone who turns people into pillars of salt is a nut job and a power freak, whoever's wife they happen to be.

Nonu Wed 25-Jul-12 18:18:06

It surely will smile

Bags Wed 25-Jul-12 18:16:43

Just chuckle in a baffled way, nag. I'm sure that'll do fine wink, won't it, nonu? smile

That's what I'm doing anyway.

Nonu Wed 25-Jul-12 18:15:08

Oh , that suit?

Anagram Wed 25-Jul-12 18:13:07

Still don't get it (if it's supposed to be Oooh! - why?). But as long as it means something to someone.....
[huffy emoticon]

Nonu Wed 25-Jul-12 18:04:48

OOOOO , less now grin

Anagram Wed 25-Jul-12 17:52:41

I don't understand all those Os....confused

Nonu Wed 25-Jul-12 17:51:49

I KNOW in a nice way , chuck

Bags Wed 25-Jul-12 17:46:49

smiling at your post nonu.

Bags Wed 25-Jul-12 17:46:19

Well, start with the Story of the ten commandments. The first four (if I remember rightly without looking them up) are about himself and how you must honour and love him above all others. If that's not a power freak talking, what is? Then, who was it who turned Job's wife to salt for some minor misdemeanour? I can check out some more if you like.

Nonu Wed 25-Jul-12 17:34:39

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !

Anagram Wed 25-Jul-12 17:33:34

Wasn't that just 'Pay your taxes'?
