I've been learning Spanish for the last few months but if this carries on I shall switch to Latin

petallus Latin is quite boring to learn but fairly easy – Spanish is more fun and even easier.

Non nobis domine.... was our school motto. There is a hymn as well... I got 22% in latin in the then 4th year which Latin master wrote in my report was a true reflection of my ability! But I did not let that bastard grind me down!

Typical of the Yorkshire attitude, my old school motto was nil sine labore, ie nothing without work, or nowt baht work in Yorksher.

Mine was Per Ardua ad Astra - which neatly puts two of the others together...

Oh dear absent I'm finding Spanish quite a challenge. It's all those verby things which I don't understand in English let alone another language.

Petallus Once you've grasped the rules of grammar you can't really go wrong. There are so few exceptions (such as la mano) that you can simply learn them. Que tengas suerte.

Who would have thought that religion would have been "up for grabs" (grabs not Bags) Along with politics it's the subject most likely to cause friction.It's specious at best, and a well known paradox, that has caused more trouble in the world than even politics.I have an insouciance to the subject considering it to be more of a business than a theological concept, or an error that will become a mistake if not corrected.It's not otiose, giving some relief to some, as it does, but I opine that its misuse has caused more damage than enough.A brief look at the previous posts to see the polemics generated is indicative of this fact.

johanna - we don't have to have grandchildren to join GN! But I do accept that this thread has become very....tiring!

All I can say is that if I were not a grandparent, I would not be on a grand parent forum.

This "Gentleman" has three grandchildren, plus three "adopted"ones! My eldest, a boy at Lancaster Uni. has two Masters Certs in Physics. my second, a boy is working as a plumbers mate, and my third, is a lovely girl, just turned 17 and at College studying Health and Safety!
Is there anything else you wish to know re. my qualifications as a Grandparent???!! .dear JOJO!
