A religious sect in The Netherlands is not allowed to prevent women from standing for election. Good ruling. Glad to see the ECHR can and does make sensible decisions sometimes.

I don't know yet, Jeni. The scan was on Friday and I will hear "soon" She did not think it likely, just worth checking, as it has increased comparatively quickly. I have been boasting for years that I have good bones and joints and no arthritis except a bit inmy knuckles. Maybe the joints and vertebrae are crumbling now just to make me eat my words.

Elegran This is not a brawl. We are not children. No it is not the secret of why there is no gender equality in politics – what an extremely anti-feminist suggestion. This is not a catfight. No one has said "she started it".

I am sorry to hear that you are having health problems and profoundly hope that they have no connection with a previous tumour.

Finally, Elegran It looks as if you have even less of a sense of humour than I have. Something I thought was impossible. hmm

Good to have you back, Elegran. smile

I do hope all is well.

jeni Mon 03-Sept-12 21:29:37

Is all well elegran?

Elegran Mon 03-Sept-12 21:27:48

For crying out loud, can't I go away for a week's holiday without coming back to a brawl?

Put a sock in it children. Could this be the secret why there is no gender equality in politics - the ability of some women to start a catfight over nothing? And don't bother saying "She started it" Just have self-control enough to be the one who ends it by firmly closing the mouth and the laptop lid and going and doing something useful.

Meanwhile I am changing the subject to tell you that besides being away for a week with DD1 and family I have also been for a bone scan as the consultant at the breast clinic wants to check that my backache and sciatica have no connection with the tumour that was removed from my breast seven years ago. Definitely wandering from the OP but as I am on here ranting I might as well mention something worth getting worked up over.

JO4 Would you like a recipe for cooking dead dog with an apple, an orange, a pear and a plum because I'm sure I can write one for you.
Oh, no. The dog has been reincarnated – do not grill until medium rare.

Nonu Unlike other people who have no sense of humour, I am quite happy to admit that I don't have one. (Such an admission is one of the last taboos in our society.)

Bags I like the Oxford comma too as I think it helps to avoid exactly the sort of confusion that has arisen here. (Inspector Morse was in favour too.)

Nonu I merely queried in a slightly shocked way as I have never been addressed as girlie by another woman, let alone one d'un certain âge.

JO4 I don't recall addressing you as a female chauvinist pig but I am prepared to believe that I did as a result of a pathetically mistaken belief that I could be faintly humorous. However, as I couldn't even get the pig/sow thing right, it was probably a massive failure.

Nonu Your posts are scattered through this conversation like acne on an adolescent's face. How can I possibly avoid them? If I simply skip them, when I read someone else's response I shall have no idea what they are responding to.

Going to sit with my husband now .

Nonu Mon 03-Sept-12 21:03:25

Here"s a solution , don"t read my posts . Easy peasy

JO4 Mon 03-Sept-12 21:03:12

I've got to go and watch New Tricks now. DH likes company. hmm

whenim64 Mon 03-Sept-12 21:01:31

Eh!! jings don't drag me into it! I'm just a spectator! grin

Nonu Mon 03-Sept-12 21:00:31

Funny you should say that jeni

annodomini Mon 03-Sept-12 20:59:46

I have been idly wondering what all this has to do with the OP - is gender equality. Sorry to spoil the party.

jeni Mon 03-Sept-12 20:58:16

Jing I don't either. I'm sorry but I do not understand what nonu is on about most of the time!
I object to being referred to as a 'girlie' I find it quite offensive!

JO4 Mon 03-Sept-12 20:58:16

I tried to get it deleted but they wouldn't. Cos when (hah!) was on the same thread and she was agreeing with me. So they said it could have been aimed at her. hmm

JO4 Mon 03-Sept-12 20:56:37

You flippin' did Absent!

(I wasn't shouting there. It was the suddenly remembering that did it) grin

whenim64 Mon 03-Sept-12 20:56:20

Miiiiiissssssss!!!!!.......they're falling out again! Shall I tell them to stop it? grin

JO4 Mon 03-Sept-12 20:55:33

ABSENTGRANA CALLED ME A FEMAL CHAUVINIST PIG ONCE!!!!!!!!!!!

I've just remembered!!! shock

JO4 Mon 03-Sept-12 20:54:05

I don't understand.

Nonu Mon 03-Sept-12 20:51:45

Be as dft as you like , is that your idea of a put down male pig --bless

JO4 Mon 03-Sept-12 20:51:41

It needn't actually have been dead. Just a dog would have been fine. hmm

Bags Mon 03-Sept-12 20:50:21

I'm putting a vote in for the Oxford comma. I like it.

Nonu Mon 03-Sept-12 20:49:59

Humour , you want to try a little absentgran

JO4 Mon 03-Sept-12 20:49:40

I always think, if you put a comma before the last item in a list, it is because that particular item is in some way different from the others. eg. "In the basket there was an apple, an orange, a pear, a plum, and a dead dog."

JO4 Mon 03-Sept-12 20:47:10

You can't get them all from Saga!

JO4 Mon 03-Sept-12 20:46:47

700!!!!!!! Where the flip are you getting 'em from Greatnan? confused
