Has anyone else, without proof positive been fascinated with the afterlife, spiritual communication etc? I have been since aged 8

tigger Fri 16-Oct-15 17:42:32

Perhaps Spiritualist Churches or seances aren't the best places to go for evidence or "proof", there seems to be a lot of "theatre". However, at private sittings with a "medium" I have been staggered at the information given to me.

I've always been very interested, since I was a small child. Initially I always believed it was there and didn't question it, but as you get older you start to question what is real and what isn't. I actually saw a full on ghost when I was 11 and it scared the life out of me. I can still see it in my mind today, as clear as anything. It was a strange experience and it happened in my bedroom, which I moved out of immediately and never slept alone in there again! But there was no interaction, no noise, it didn't look at me, just stared straight ahead, in my general direction. I know for certain I saw a ghost, but I don't know that this ghost was proof of life after death or whether it was something else, a memory left in the building for example. When my relatives have died, I have been left questioning the existence of an afterlife, as I have not had any signs from them, which I'm sure I would have had if it were all real. I have been to Spiritualist churches and never been picked, but have listened to the readings for others that have been and thought they were complete rubbish! A life after this one is the only thing that makes sense to me. We are way too complex to just cease to exist after death, but I can't find any proof that this is the case, which terrifies me!

I could change my forum name......

Well Alea, have had another look at those posts, they are just straightforward views expressed by other parties without the sarcasm.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Oct-15 16:59:49

I don't need to do any "virtue signalling. You all know how extremely virtuous I am. Always. smile [halo]

tigger Fri 16-Oct-15 16:53:03

No Elegran, you are not being snide or pompous, just expressing a point of view without the "put down".

Elegran Fri 16-Oct-15 16:27:08

Can I express an opinion without being snide or pompous, too?

Proof positive is impossible, unless it is set up before someone dies that they will give a definite sign from beyond if they still have an existence, and that unmistakeable evidence then appears. It is a fact that there have been attempts to do this, by people who are convinced of survival of something after death, but I don't know of any successes.

One of the difficulties is just "how" that survival could be signalled by the survivor. They have lost all the ways that they used for communication while alive, and their brains no longer have any electrical impulses which might (perhaps) have generated weak magnetic fields.

Tigger would you like to extend your snide comments to the other members who posted in the negative earlier in the thread? For instance, whitewave, Luckygirl, annodomini, Tanith, felice or is your opprobrium reserved just for lucky ole me?

Alea Fri 16-Oct-15 16:12:02

BH, I am not being snide or pompous so don't lecture me on what I do or don't get.
I expressed an opinion about the existence of an "afterlife". End of.
Now please stop picking on me by dictating that only those who agree are allowed to express a view.

tigger Fri 16-Oct-15 15:57:53

Alea, you just don't get it do you? If you don't like the thread, no need to be snide or pompous, just don't post anything and leave other interested parties to exchange their views and experiences.

Alea Fri 16-Oct-15 15:32:49

wink

Personally, I think the idea of an "afterlife" is just wishful thinkng, but by the time I am proved right wrong it will be too late.
Make the best of this life, you only get one bite at this particular cherry.

Grannyknot Fri 16-Oct-15 15:21:53

alea it has provided the opportunity to do some "virtue signalling" - see other thread smile

Alea Fri 16-Oct-15 14:52:49

Well that's a relief, smile so sad if all that righteous indignation support were to go unnoticed. hmm

Mi60, if a Christian then impossible not to believe in the afterlife because Christ told us it exists yes?

spabbygirl Fri 16-Oct-15 12:55:52

Hi mumofmadboys but other folk too. I'm a very active Christian and like you still believe in ghosts etc. When my dad was dying my sister was desperate to be with him at the end. I wasn't so much & I wasn't working & lived near so I could be with him at the drop of a hat. My sister lived miles away and worked full time with a job in the evening. A date and time popped into my sister's head and about three weeks later he died exactly as predicted. It was as specific as 2.10pm on the 21st, and thats exactly what happened. I believe someone knew how much it mattered to her and gave her the word.

I'm a Christian too but even if I wasn't I think I would believe in more to come simply because it's such an incredibly amazing miracle that I exist now. If that can happen why not more in the future. Believing in and being a follower of Jesus helps me to make sense of it all.

Anniebach Fri 16-Oct-15 12:46:48

Yes Mumofmadboys so understand and share your belief

Ana Fri 16-Oct-15 12:32:30

No, mumofmadboys meant 'two question marks' appeared instead of the smiley face she'd intended, roses! grin

rosesarered Fri 16-Oct-15 12:29:36
