The OP doesn't just mention the afterlife (ie in heaven or the Other Place) but also spiritual communication. That is what all the stories about seeing and hearing strange things are about, and some of us are pointing out that the brain interprets digital input as sound, sight, smell etc and can get it wrong.
Epileptic smells are not constant, btw, they come and go, particularly just before a seizure - which can be a small inconspicuous one, not a dramatic falling about.
The supposed religious beliefs of the OP - Satan getting our souls if we use our God-given brains to examine the statements in the Bible, Jesus coming again to slaughter mediums (what about prophets who are channelling God's messages about coming back to slaughter - are they to be slaughtered too?) could easily be confused with the pronouncements of a mischievous schoolchild filling in half-term by winding up the "auld biddies".
