I am giving up moaning about the weather! Have already been sorely tested by torrential rain again most of the morning but I shall keep trying!

I will go with the"being pleasant and helpful to all"
I'm not strong enough to give up GN

Easter Sunday 27th March 2016

Lent already! I thought Easter wasn't until the end of April?

I was trying to explain the concept of Lent to our 9 year old yesterday. He was quite nonplussed at the thought that anyone should want to give up anything - especially something they enjoy! I'm trying to go sugar free - don't give myself a cat in h***'s chance but I'm trying!

But I haven't had anything nice since Xmas - there is nothing left to give up so I'll juts have to put my back into being nice and ignoring anything unpleasant!!!!

I tried that "doing something positive" thing last year, Teetime. I'd forgotten all my good intentions within a week. I know it's not in the spirit of Lent, but it's easier just to give something up even if it is chocolate sad

But if you all desert us, what will the rest of us do? grin

I've given up chocolate. I'll be miserable enough without having GN taken away.

Penstemmon a few years ago I gave up GN for Lent. To compensate I developed an obsession with online jigsaw puzzles.

I am wondering if I should join you this time in giving up GN.

Anybody else want to do it?

Huh!

My dear friend a curate in Essex posted on FB today the introduction to 40 actions which she uses as the basis for her devotion in Lent. It was very thought provoking as it was possible to follow without any religious allegiance whatsoever - it was just about paying closer attention to the needs of people who aren't close to us but we interact with on a daily basis e.g shop assistants, the postman that kind of thing. If one is of a Christian bent it used the text ' Love they neighbour as thyself'. I like that I'm going to go with it. So good wishes to you all and I hope you have a good day. flowers

That's admirable Penstermmon

I am sure you will find the time you are giving up will be relaxing and perhaps more

I do not believe in God, though I am not against the basic Christian rules for living a good life. Old cultural habits die hard. This year for the lenten period I am giving up FB and GN and plan to spend an hour or two a day making items that will help those in a less happy situation than myself rather than 'surfin'.

So see you all at Easter grin
