Next week is Holy Week and this year I am not able to share
The Words From The Cross with others.

If I post one every day starting tomorrow I hope someone here will read and so share with me

And for today:

The Donkey
BY G. K. CHESTERTON

When fishes flew and forests walked
And figs grew upon thorn,
Some moment when the moon was blood
Then surely I was born.

With monstrous head and sickening cry
And ears like errant wings,
The devil’s walking parody
On all four-footed things.

The tattered outlaw of the earth,
Of ancient crooked will;
Starve, scourge, deride me: I am dumb,
I keep my secret still.

Fools! For I also had my hour;
One far fierce hour and sweet:
There was a shout about my ears,
And palms before my feet.

Easter Wings
BY GEORGE HERBERT

Lord, who createdst man in wealth and store,
Though foolishly he lost the same,
Decaying more and more,
Till he became
Most poore:
With thee
O let me rise
As larks, harmoniously,
And sing this day thy victories:
Then shall the fall further the flight in me.

My tender age in sorrow did beginne
And still with sicknesses and shame.
Thou didst so punish sinne,
That I became
Most thinne.
With thee
Let me combine,
And feel thy victorie:
For, if I imp my wing on thine,
Affliction shall advance the flight in me.

Although I’m not a Christian, I would also like to share with you all. We don’t need to be of the same faith or persuasion to pick out the love, kindness, caring and sharing that seems to be common to all. I will enjoy sharing with you, thank you

Hi Newquay. I'm still around! Our internet has been down recently so not posted much. Nice to be missed though! It will be good to mark Holy Week on here. Encouraging that so many of us are keen to follow through the week together. Thanks Annie.

I read Frank Morison's 'Who Moved The Stone?' many years ago Annie and have probably given away a dozen or so copies since. Although the author wasn't a legal man his approach to the subject was logical, and quite broad. He attempts to approach the topic as objectively as possible, but from the viewpoint of someone who was not a Christian. His intention was to disprove the resurrection of Jesus yet after carefully study he was led to conclude it truly happened! I still have my original copy, but the language and style are now very dated so Lee Strobell's 'The Case For Christ' might be a slightly more readable alternative.

.travelsafar, yes it is wonderful in times of trouble but also in happy times . Two days ago I saw a beautiful rainbow from my living room window and my first thoughts were of God, my second of Finians Rainbow , my third ? Yep the Judy Garland song ?

kitty, I remember ranting to my priest about someone who ignored people, he said - just think as Jesus thinks , poor people must suffer stiff necks keeping their noses in the air ?

tessagee Fri 23-Mar-18 12:44:25

Anniebach, I will be with you in this and look forward to your posts.

travelsafar Fri 23-Mar-18 12:36:51

Anniebach and any of you that have a faith which you truely believe in, how i envy you. It must be so wonderful to have faith in times of trouble and to have the support of like minded people from your church in your life. Have a wonderful Easter and i look forward to reading your post over the next week. flowers smile

Just as an aside.

Teetime, your vicar sounds better than our current one who lives about 4 doors away, passes our house to get to church and has not spoken to either of us in the 4/5 years he has livedthere. Nor has his wife who is also a vicar.

DD3 went to a Catholic school where the priest always did something fun on the last day of term. The best was turning to approach the cross on the day of the carol service, his robes came to life in the shape of a Christmas tree with flashing baubles!!
