I'm sure it's a very scenic drive.

We live in South Wales but go through Penmachno at least twice a year. We come up to Lake Vyrnwy and then to Bala and across the moors to Betsy Coed. Our absolutely favourite car journey. Might have a look at the church this time

Just listened to Suo-Gan. Beautiful, thank you. JamesandJon33.

JamesandJon33 I love Aled singing "Did you not hear". Actually he's one of my favourite people.
The village looked lovely and the old church.
Shelflife I'm glad. It lifted me too so I thought I should share it.

Thank you nadateturbe, thank-you for that it has lifted my spirits today.

I like all the Welsh hymns, being Welsh . But my favourite Aled Jones is ‘Did you not hear my lady ‘ and the lullaby Suo -Gan .

Pe Mach o I know well. They used to have a great woollen mill there

Lovely episode today from a little village in the beautiful Welah area of Eryri called Penmachno. Worth watching.

It is lovely Nanna8 but I know you like traditional ones too. I think we need a mix of modern and traditional in church to suit all ages and taste. I'm 72 and like both.

‘Yet not I’ is a lovely hymn and they do actually sing that one at my church ( Presbyterian).

I find it very reassuring and uplifting Rosie. I've listened to other songs by the same group on YouTube and enjoyed them.

I've never heard that one before naderturbe it's really lovely.

Rosie51 thanks. Shine Jesus Shine - a favourite Graham Kendrick hymn.. I hadn't heard the second hymn for many years, a very cheerful one. Thanks for reminding me.
I like traditional and modern. I think music is a very important part of worship.

The day Thou gavest is my favourite traditional one.
This is my very favourite modern one.

Yet Not I but through Christ in me.

Yes this is another great hymn. Some of my family are Jewish and they love this too. It has a 'Jewish' flavour to it for me.

I love loads of the traditional hymns but this is my absolute favourite hymn (it's modern) and I want it sung if my family decide on a Church service when I'm dead. www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3iB30gCqAc

I really like this. I used to help at JAM club at my kids school (some years ago) and this is one of the songs the children loved. One of my other favourites, among others, is We Shall Go Out With Joy. Gets the crowd going, playing it faster and faster. Used to discombobulate the High Church amongst the congregation though when we had all the churches from the parish come to ours! (I forget the official name of the service!)

We watch Songs of Praise most weeks, although usually on iPlayer at a convenient time. I love the traditional hymns that I was brought up with, but I like many of the more modern ones too.

SeaWoozle Tue 05-Mar-24 22:57:30

I met him once a few years ago. Lovely, lovely person. I also didn't realise Songs of Praise was still on. Must catch up with it. Despite a distinct lack of faith, I've always enjoyed the human side of it and listening to the hymns. I played the piano at our church until a couple of years ago. Think I take after Tim Minchin in that sense! White Wine in the Sun is one of my favourite songs.

He has such a wonderful voice, doesn’t he? I love the old hymns, too. I wish my church would have more of them.

I know what you mean *Curtaintwitcher, modern isn't for everyone. This week was a good mix, mostly traditional.

Curtaintwitcher Sun 25-Feb-24 16:49:49

I used to enjoy Songs of Praise but it got a bit too 'modern' for me. I like the old traditional hymns and tunes. I hope others keep on watching it though, or the BBC will find an excuse not to broadcast it any more.

For those who are interested, Songs of Praise today, Aled talking about his faith and love of music. Nice programme.
