No, not usual in our church either. I don't want to seem negative at dismissing harvest festivals which have no meaning for me, but that the churches want to combine to have one in our parish hall. I think it is that coming together that should be supported, not the festival itself.

We don’t have harvest festivals at my church. I remember them from childhood at a Methodist church in London. We all used to bring fruit or vegetables which was quite hard for some, post war. I am not sure they have it at all here in any of the churches, never heard of it. I could be wrong, though. It would, of course, be held at a different time of year in the southern hemisphere.

I know this is an old thread but last night I heard about plans to share a harvest festival celebration between different churches in our community, to be held in our church hall. I think its a great idea.

We have the poster which advertised this event up in our church as a reminder of the day. It's rather beautiful.

It's heartening to see prayers for peace uniting communities globally.

I would have gone.
But I had other commitments on that day.

Yes, there were men and women taking part at the one I went to.

I would have attended my local one, but it was in a remote country church and the weather was awful.

I decided to attend one on-line. The first one was poor sound, very difficult to hear, but then I found one from Cardiff which was much better sound and quite appropriate being Saint David's Day.

I too found it very moving and both the ones I saw were very well attended, and not just women.

I saw a photograph of the local one which also seemed well attended even though I wasn't there!

Such an important and poignant thing, I feel.

Formerly called the Women’s World Day of Prayer, but now with a more inclusive title, this ecumenical Christian movement organises an international service every year on the first Friday in March. This year the service was prepared by the Christian women of Palestine. Obviously it was prepared months before the current troubles, but the situation there has of course been difficult for some time.
I found this year’s service incredibly poignant and powerful. The underlying theme was “bearing with one another in love.” The prayers were for peace, much needed now in Gaza and indeed across the world, but especially in the Middle East.

I wonder if anyone else attended the service? Not every town holds one, but they are held in many places.
