Facebook Market Place - Scam?

I don’t understand the scam if you would get the money before the courier collected the item.

I had the same last week. Although I couldn't see the scam, it seemed a helluva lot of effort for the prospective purchaser to go to for a low value item.

When I queried the process the pp, whose first language was probably not English, said they'd send the money, then arrange a courier. That seemed to me to mean giving address and bank details to a stranger, which I wasn't comfortable with, so I withdrew the item.

If I understand this correctly to receive payment from UPS (are they the real UPS ?) you would need to SIGN for the envelope.

1) others then have your Signature

2) until you open the envelope you don't know if it has any money in it

3) to send a currier they have your address and your Facebook information.

So before you know it you have a Credit Card Bill and Car Payment and maybe even a Mortgage in your name. Who know what else might be done to you or in your name.

Far too risky so well spotted before the damage was done.

Ailidh - yes I suspected that they would at some point be asking for our bank details as there would suddenly be a problem with sending the money. The message I got was in very poor English also.

If it had just been one request I maybe would have believed it was genuine but two within an hour plus my SIL knowing someone who had the same...mmmmm

It is a scam and has been happening a fair bit lately on FB
DO NOT enter into this and never sell anything without seeing the money first
