My dh has spent the morning talking to his bank after an apparent scam a few days ago. He was parking but didn’t have the Ringo app, so had to make a phone call to them. It wasn’t Ringo but scammers have used his card 3times already. Apparently according to the bank this is happening a lot so just letting everyone know.

I'm surprised too lemsip. They must have caught him off guard.

I am surprised that a BBC person had not heard of all the scam investigation on BBC 1 warning everyone

I think Peter Levy will be talking about scams on his Look North programme this week.

I think he hopes to highlight it to others, and personally I applaud him for admitting how easy it was to get tricked, and saying how ashamed and embarrassed he has been about it all.

Yes it's confusing. I had one of these calls, a recorded message. I put the phone down and rang my bank. They had always said that they never contact people in this way. The person I spoke to said 'Yes that was us'. confused

This is dreadful. My bank, everytime I log on, warns about these scams. OK to say people shouldn't get caught, but if you're busy, not well, they can catch you off guard. The BBC have done a few programmes about stopping these criminals.
For me they get my surname wrong,, although do not usually answer a number not in my contacts. so I'm happy to tell them to stop their scam. The phone always goes down. Fingers crossed I've escaped so far.

I keep wondering if GrandMattie has got her money back.

Grandmattie - I hope you have had a satisfactory resolution of your scam.
My half brother was similarly “scammed” at a vulnerable point in his life shortly after he lost his wife.
He too received full compensation, but the psychological damage was immense.

I'm surprised at him. We are told time and time again that if this happens you should put the phone down and call your bank.

Peter Levy the Look North News PresenterA BBC Look North presenter says he has got his money back after being scammed out of almost half of his life savings.

Peter Levy, 68, fell victim to the fraud in February, after receiving a call from someone pretending to be from his bank claiming there had been some suspicious activity on his account.

The caller asked him to log into his account to make some "security checks".

Mr Levy said he felt "ashamed and embarrassed" for trusting the caller but added that scammers are "great actors".

Mr Levy revealed details of the scam to presenter Richard Stead on BBC Radio Humberside and BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

He said he received a call at about 19:20 BST one evening in February from someone asking if he had spent £500 in the last hour.

Mr Levy replied he had not, and, in fact, had been at work.

The scammer then asked him to log into his account.

Mr Levy said: "Of course I logged onto the account and, of course, it wasn't the fraud department or bank at all, it was a fraudster."

The money has now been returned to Mr Levy after he went straight to his bank when he realised what had happened.

put the phone down telling caller you will check on it..
