You know you don't have an account - so why bother checking the number?

I regularly get that type of thing from various banks/financial places even though I've never been with them! I register them as scam and block them.

Same with ''you've won a trillion quid from the National Lottery, ring NOW to confirm address''. I never do the lotto or any other gambling!

Good to know. Thanks!

Just ring the Nationwide, using a mumber from their official website and check.

The OP has stated in the opening post they don't have any Nationwide accounts.

You do not need to have an account to ask them to confirm it is a spam.

And, since the OP is warning other people who may have Nationwide accounts, this is a way that they can confirmj that it is indeed a spam email they have received.

This sort of spam is very common. I must get at least one a week, most of them for financial providers I do not have any commection with.

Google Who Called Me

A coordinated scam operation is currently targeting customers of Virgin Money, HSBC, Barclays and Nationwide. The number 03300270069 you are viewing has been involved in fraudulent activity. For your safety, do not share personal information over the phone, avoid installing any apps or software at the request of the caller, and resist making rushed decisions under pressure, especially regarding money transfers. Always use official contact channels to reach your bank.

I google ‘who’s number’ and it will usually tell you if it’s a legitimate number or a scammers number.

Thanks

I'm very wary of any unexpected emails and texts now. Just annoying to have to spend time checking them.

HowVeryDareYou2 Wed 25-Sept-24 16:03:44

There are quite a few chancers about. I had a text asking me to ring a 0345 number to listen to my voicemails. I haven't got a voicemail facility on my 'phone. Marked as spam now.

They're up to all the dodges, have to keep one step ahead of them...thanks for telling us...

Grannybags Wed 25-Sept-24 16:00:58

That's a new one! Thanks for the warning

I got a text from 07467891249 asking me to verify a payment from Nationwide.
I don't have any Nationwide accounts.

It asked me to call 0330 027 0069 if I'm not making a payment. That number is listed on a 'who's calling' website as a scam caller.

Clearly they wanted me to call to say I'm not making a payment and then they'd ask for ID info.

Watch out!
