Scams and fraud

An unusual one

I often discuss old television shows on another website and someone came along asking about some obsxure eighties sitcoms we both remember. Now he claims to have contacted ITV for six episodes of a sitcom that he can get for £655 from their vaults as it's not on DVD.
Now I'm beggining to think this man is a scammer as he keeps asking for my e mail address and asking where I live, and I doubt ITV would want to sell a sitcom to a member of the general public. Any one else think this is dubious?

I have no experience of this but if in doubt give it a very wide berth. Personal information, such as email and home addresses are best shared with people you know personally.

This is undoubtedly a scam. Run for the hills!

Why not just contact ITV yourself? They should know this is going on if it is a scam.

ITV will know if it is a scam, and if it is not a scam, they will be able to sell it to the poster, all above board. Also, if one of the workers in their vaults is selling pirated copies of it, they will be pleased to know that.

I am suspicious as I doubt I'd want to fork out such a huge sum for six episodes of a 43 year old sitcom, and I doubt ITV would sell to an individual.

I’ve heard of scams , but this one takes the biscuit !!!

I’ve just googled it, yes ITV and other channels have an archive service where you can buy old programmes, one person was quoted £150 for a single episode of something.

I still wouldn’t buy them from him though. If he wanted them and has paid why not let you watch for free.

Is there a reason you didn’t contact ITV?

It sounds odd, but I suppose it is possibly true, but then again scams are getting increasingly niche!

As others have said, probably best to avoid and consider contacting ITV.
