My DH had one too - sent from the Philippines!

NannyJan53 Wed 16-Jul-25 19:55:50

I had one today by text. So still doing the rounds.

Obviously reported and blocked!

I have received one too. Obvious scam!

I had another of these today and, when I didn't comply with their 'request' to fill in the form, but reported them as 'junk', I got another telling me to stick my 300 where the sun don't shine, but less politely.

You annoyed the scammers.
Well done you.
👏👏👏

If only the savvy people perpetuating these scams spent their time and energy in legitimate ways, they might make a good living and avoid jail....

As other posters say, this is definitely a scam. My understanding is that you don’t have to apply for it. Rather, anyone over the £35,000 threshold will pay it back via the taxation system (or can opt out from receiving it in the first place, I think). However, whatever method is used, you will not have to apply for it so these texts are scams. Be on your guard.

Yes, I got one of these today. Recognised it as a scam and deleted.

FoghornLeghorn Wed 11-Jun-25 03:27:38

Yes, I had a text yesterday. Apparently they required my credit or debit card details in order to process my payment! 😂. Undoubtedly some people will fall for it.

These scams are instigated by the lowest of the low - But I still can't believe that people will fall for them.
It stands to reason that the DWP knows who they are paying pensions to - so WFA will be paid with by them in the same way as it was before.

Deedaa Tue 10-Jun-25 20:46:27

My son forwarded one of these to me this morning, with a warning. I've always found that if the DWP want anything they write a letter.

Kate1949 Tue 10-Jun-25 20:39:55

Martin Lewis said on TV today that any text or email you get asking you to apply for the WFA will be scams. You don't have to apply.

Shinamae Tue 10-Jun-25 20:36:51

Thanks for the heads up…

BlueBelle Tue 10-Jun-25 20:27:35

We don’t have to apply though !,,,

merlotgran Tue 10-Jun-25 20:22:29

Yep! I’ve had one as well. 😡

AGAA4 Tue 10-Jun-25 20:00:23

Thanks. Good to know.

Cabbie21 Tue 10-Jun-25 17:30:23

An online news story included the implication that WFA needs to be claimed which is not correct. Such misinformation leads to scams.

Grannybags Tue 10-Jun-25 17:09:14

Blimey. Thanks for the warning

Georgesgran Tue 10-Jun-25 17:07:13

Funnily enough my friend showed me a similar text yesterday - obviously a scam, but then again, not everyone checks out the senders’ site.

Luckygirl3 Tue 10-Jun-25 17:07:11

It's a bit sickening really.

Allira Tue 10-Jun-25 15:16:29

Thanks for the tip!

Astitchintime Tue 10-Jun-25 15:11:31

There are no limits as how low these scammers will stoop to extract money from the unwary 🤬🤬.
Be vigilant people!

Cronesrule Tue 10-Jun-25 13:32:32

Hubble had text yesterday asking him to fill in details to qualify for WFA. Beware and share this risk. I think allowance is going to be calculated via tax system so no-one should need to apply in any way and certainly not yet! Scam was convincing, counting on people not knowing the system yet.
