Gofundme scam- fundraiser withdrawn

Hello

I was the first person to make a donation to a gofundme page. I received an email confirming payment. The fundraiser was immediately withdrawn after this so this is a scam.

I have reported this on the gofundme website and have received a standard response from them that I will be contacted in two days for a potential refund.

When making the payment, I provided the long card number on my bank card. My main concern is the fact that what if more money is withdrawn from my bank account as the scammer has access to my card number.

The payment was not showing on my statement yesterday but it is showing today. What is the best way to proceed. Should I freeze my bank account and inform my bank?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Speak to your bank right away.

I agree - contact your bank and tell them what has happened. They may change your card. It's hard to put a block on payments when you probably don't know the people who may use it.

Speak to your bank as soon as I have just been scammed on a card I haven’t used so something completely beyond my control ‘they’ made a number if purchases increasing in amounts I alerted my bank as soon as possible and all the money has been refunded a new card and new pin all done very quickly

Tell the bank they will disable your card and block all transactions with it and send a new one and if you have Apple or Google pay the bank will add your new card to your phone wallet before the replacement physical card arrives. This happened to me and the bank contacted me and told me (asked if I recognised the transaction as they identified it as usual) before I had realised I had even had money taken. They blocked the transaction and my card and sent a new card to me by registered post and put the new one in my wallet on my phone so I wasn’t stuck.

Thank you for all your responses.
I have requested a replacement card via online banking. This I believe will have a new card number and CVC number. Isnt this a better solution than contacting the bank? I have temporarily frozen my card until I get the new card.
As far as I am aware, when donating on gofundme, they only ask for the card number, CVC and expiry date. They never asked for the account number or sort code so I should be able to use my new card with the same sort code and account number and hopefully will not fall prey to any scam.

I really think you should contact your bank so that they are aware.

But it's not gofundme, it's a scammer. Why would you not phone them! Phone them now and they will stop any unauthorised withdrawals and keep an eye on your account. 6 people have suggested this so please let them know.

Your safest bet is to ring your bank or call in person and simply tell them what has happened and explain what precautions you have taken on line.
You should be ok .
