It is happening in the UK as well. The weight of the last ice sheet that covered most of Britain was much thicker and heavier over Scotland than it was over areas further south. So as land in Scotland was depressed land in Southern England, particularly around the Fens and Wash rose. As the ice receded the see saw started moving back. Scotland is still rising while Eastern England is still sinking. There was a land bridge between Britain and Europe 6000 + years ago, an area now referred to as 'Dogger Land'. As land in the east sank the bridge was broken as the area flooded and it still continues.
