Pony tails

Did I really just hear on the radio that someone has got the Nobel Prize for physics for his/her study on why girls' pony tails swing from side to side when they are jogging? (As opposed to up and down)

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2012 was awarded jointly to Serge Haroche and David J. Wineland "for ground-breaking experimental methods that enable measuring and manipulation of individual quantum systems"

A bit of over simplifcation, perhaps?
