PS I know it's not true, real Polar Bears prefer rhyming pentameter.

Both sides in the allegorical sense and both sides in the scientific sense too.

Besides, Why should I have to defend the way I think about things? At least I think.

Which bit about my sentence "I like the poem, really" don't people understand? And why shouldn't I be literal as well as enjoying the allegorical story? I think it's good to see 'both sides'.

It's a fantasy, an allegory, if you like, for a situation in which there could be two sides to a disaster. Don't be so literal, Bags!!

I thought the poem was lovely and liked the fact that it proved there are two sides to most stories. Thank you gm, I hadn't seen it before.

Female polar bears rear their young without the father. She keeps away from male bears unless she wants to mate, which she won't while she has cubs in tow. The mothers chase the cubs away to fend for themselves when they are about two-and-a-half years old. This (chasing away) behaviour is common in some other carnivore species as well.

So although the poem is sweet from our point fo view, it's decidedly misleading from a reality of polar bears point if view. Just saying. All the misinformation and misconceptions get annoying after a while.

I like it a lot and decided to copy it - only to find I already had copied it last time you posted it. Thanks for reminding me about it.

I like the poem, gm, really, but I don't like anthropomorphism about polar bears.

This thread reminded me of a poem which I think I have posted before (last year maybe? but couldn't find it) as perhaps a reason why we should still worry about (some) Polar bears

On a cold rainy night on a Liverpool quayside

When into the throng came a sad-eyed Polar Bear,

Did a lesson observation once on a young teacher who taught her class that polar bears eat penguins { not even April Fools Day}. She was quite sure she was rigt and googled it defiantly...oops
