Before the Big Bang

I have only just managed to get my head round the concept that there is no "before" the Big Bang. Help!

Sorry, galen, I was asleep by nine o'clock last night! And anyway, I can't 'explain' infinity. I don't find the concept of seeing evidence from before the Big Bang difficult though; that's just an extension of, say, seeing the Andromeda Galaxy (which I can if I walk out of my back door on a clear night) and knowing that what I am seeing 'is' two and a half million years ago. It's a bit like a photograph – 'capturing' some light at a certain moment in time. With the Big Bang we're talking about billions instead of millions – only one 'letter' has changed : a quantitative change rather than a qualitative one.

Well, it doesn't - it eventually meets itself coming back.

I have a problem, not the seeing back. Have no problem with the science.
My problem is with the concept of infinity! Also if something is infinite, how does it have a start or end?

I just watched it at the end of the news. Having a little bit of a job getting my head round it. It's amazing that they can 'see' right back to when the universe had only just started.

I'm just glad I can see after it!
