Starpath Street Lighting

There was an article about a woman and her sisters who have inherited a disease which means they cannot go out in ultraviolet light. Fortunately her children have not inherited it. I hope she does not live in Cambridge. Otherwise her outings will be even more curtailed.

I think that is rather beautiful.

Not that long ago, the estate where we live was lit like a high security prison. Recently all the street lights have been replaced with much more subdued lighting and we much prefer it. It didn't occur to me that it might be cost saving, but as the number of lights were also reduced, that makes sense.

My ds has been raving about these solar powered roads and leisure courts etc, it's a brilliant idea.

That's lovely! I wonder why my son hasn't mentioned it? It's in his back garden! I suppose he just takes it for granted. Or maybe he tried to describe it and I hadn't a clue what he was talking about.

We just wish the street lights near us were not blazing during the day as well.
The local primary school also has lights blazing day and night in the car park.
It prides itself on teaching the pupils about rainforests, ecology and saving the planet but fails to address a problem right under its nose.

Complaining to the school or the County Council is like banging your head against a brick wall.

We used to live behind the police training HQ in Winchester. It was closed during the weekends and at night, but the lights were on all day and night. They said it was for security purposes.

Sounds good to me

It is lovely isn't it. I'm thinking of suggesting it here as all our lights (apart from those near hospitals and major corners) go off at midnight and don't always come on in the morning whilst it's still dark. As we have no reflected light and if there is no moonlight to help out, you can run the risk of falling off the kerb as you, quite literally, cannot see your hand in front of your face. Even if they just coated the kerbstones so that drivers and pedestrians can see them clearly would be a big help - plus it looks pretty

roseq, if I see a street light on, I just need to take the number, then go on the council website and report it. They are all controlled at the headquarters now, so it gets switched off straight away.

Done that, durhamjen; Dh emails, phones, contacted school and Council, still no change. I think he knows the numbers by heart now.
