I have just read that there will be an almost total eclipse at 09.30 depending on your area of the UK on Friday 20th March.
Exciting smile

Fantastic pictures newist well done and how lucky you were we didn't even get a glimpse the cloud was way too thick.. it did get very dark but sadly not even a glimpse of the Eclipse.

I hope these photos work, they are before and after pictures of the eclipse, the clouds sadly kept covering the sun.

Yes, I remember the birds going quiet too, and a sort of unusual dusk light. Very odd, but I'm glad I saw it and hope to see the one coming up.

We were quite awestruck with the silence of the birds the last time there was an eclipse. It was decidedly eerie, we were in the garden and everything just settled quietly for a few moments, our neighbours recorded the drop in temperature, and then things began to come to life again, really very odd at that time of day.

We were in Lincolnshire in thick fog for the last one - so disappointing!

I was lucky enough to watch the 1999 eclipse on a hill between Torquay and Teignmouth . now I shall be lucky enough to watch the 20th of March one in The Outer Hebrides

I made a pinhole projector and was really surprised at how effective it was.

I'd forgotten all the warnings we had in 1999!

The easiest and cheapest way is to fill a bucket with water and watch the reflection on the surface.
If you line the bucket with a black bin bag the image will be even clearer.
We did this the last time an eclipse was visible in UK. It works well.

Just look at all those stars! Beautiful.

Mishap Sat 14-Mar-15 21:11:24

Apparently you need some special glasses to look at it - sunglasses insufficient. Not sure where you get them.

I am so looking forward to it and just praying the weather will cooperate with us and we will have clear skies. No guarantees of course.

Wow, what an amazing photograph newist. Thanks for sharing.
I shall be in Manchester for the eclipse, so expect to get a better view than my husband who'll be at home in Devon.
