BEES, OTHER INSECTS & PESTICIDES PETITION

(34 Posts)
MiniMouse Fri 10-Apr-15 13:13:26

We've had a similar thread before, but this is an updated petition to ensure that the Government, whoever wins the election, will stand by the decision to ban neuro-active insecticides (known as neonicotinoids)

Please sign!

Bayer and Syngenta sat in on the meeting to lift the ban on neonics.

Something wrong about this.

Over 74500 signatures so far.

Only another 25,000+ and we could have a debate when parliament comes back. If it's not too late.

This is close to my heart. Several of my DH's family are farmers and I know that some of them have decided not to use these pesticides. I haven't seen as many bees this year as in the past. The sooner the better IMO.

I do exactly the same daisy They often fly away.

Daisyanswerdo Fri 24-Jul-15 13:05:47

Found a bumblebee on the tarmac where I park my car yesterday. Encouraged it onto a leaf, put it on a nearby hydrangea flower and went indoors to get some honey and water. Couldn't see bee and was about to give up when I saw it on the ground. Offered the honey and water and was delighted when it drank (ate?) for ages. I could see its proboscis moving and the honey and water certainly lessened. I left it outside and just hope it's ok. It's raining today, but don't know what else I could have done.

This is a written response in parliament two days ago. Nowhere does it say they are going to go against the EU.

Farmers will regret it when there are no bees in a couple of years time.

whitewave Thu 23-Jul-15 15:53:14

Already done but has anyone seen the email from 38 that suggests it has slide through?

Lona Thu 23-Jul-15 15:49:54

Signed. I've seen quite a lot of bees on my huge lavender plant.

Tegan Thu 23-Jul-15 15:31:45

I've hardly seen any bees or wasps this year [ditto aphids].

durhamjen Thu 23-Jul-15 15:25:23

"The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) also told its expert committee on pesticides (ECP) to halt its normal practice of publishing the minutes of meetings at which the neonicotinoid applications were discussed, in order to avoid “provoking representations from different interest groups”. "

They also do not want us to know what is going on.

Why all the fuss about whether we should be in the EU or not when they just ignore the EU ban anyway?

durhamjen Thu 23-Jul-15 15:22:53

The government has just ignored us and the EU.

There was a meeting and discussion this week in parliament about the NFU wanting to use neonicotinoids again.

This is an interesting article on bees.

(I'm having such a blush morning today. Just realised that the info and petition is from 'sumofus' not 38 degrees.)

MiniMouse Wed 27-May-15 11:34:45

They probably hope that we'll just give up and go away whenim WRONG!!!

whenim64 Wed 27-May-15 11:22:56

Signed - Monsanto really are persistent, aren't they?

MiniMouse Wed 27-May-15 11:03:28

Monsanto have upped the ante and are now trying to take over Syngenta. This means that they are going to be able to wield massive power in farming and agriculture and will be able to exert huge pressure to use their pesticides.

This is seriously scary stuff, as they would also have control of 35% of the world's seed supply.

The above info came from 38 degrees.

Here's the link to their petition if you would care to sign:

grannyactivist Wed 20-May-15 23:15:15

Yes, I have already signed both of these petitions. Bayer, BASF and Syngenta, the multinationals suing the European Commission to overturn a ban on the pesticides that are killing millions of bees, have virtually unlimited funds to pursue lawsuits - I fear it's a sign of things to come if TTIP isn't thwarted.
Watch how a bee develops.

durhamjen Wed 20-May-15 22:52:49

They are still trying to get round the European ban.

Another reason to stay in Europe.
