Will anyone else try to stay awake to see the "blood moon" tonight?
Last night was clear and bright and the features on the moon were very clear but tonight it is slightly cloudy however I will try to stay awake.

Losing an hour's sleep during the night was well worthwhile and the view from my upper windows was perfect. So amazing to have a cloudless night here in Cheshire. I fell asleep at once when it reached totality and slept until an hour later than usual. Feeling quite bright and perky this morning.

I didn't stay up, nor did I set the alarm, because I always wake several times in the night and rarely get more than 2 hours sleep together. Went to bed at midnight, thought 'I'll be awake by 1.30, probably again at 3.00 so that's all right'. I woke up at 5.34. Almost unheard of. angry

I saw it when it was about two thirds eclipsed and then dozed off and woke again at 3:30 when it was just coming back. It was impressive but the same size as always.

It was a lovely clear night when we went to bed, so I did the bang your head on the pillow thing (three times) for when you want to wake. And it worked! So I donned dressing gown and crept downstairs and out into a lovely calm night. Looked up and around - 95% cloud cover! It was quite an eirie light though - but no moon. Ho hum! sad

I appreciate you have seen it before hilda. I think my main reason for wanting to see this one is that the next one is forecast for 2033 and as I will be 96 I decided I will probably need my sleep then so thought I would get one in now grin

We had to be up before 6 today, so couldn't stay up to watch. It's my DD1's birthday today and she was born at 0200h. I'm not even going to google as to what sort of omen this is - I'll just assume it's all good. smile

I went out to have a look at about 03:50. The moon was a rusty red but unfortunately at that time it was rather obscured by some high light cloud. I was quite surprised at how bright my surroundings were! I had a quick look around and then went back to bed. I have seen a lunar eclipse before. This one wasn't any different.

Managed to see it. I had never seen it before, quite spectacular. Tired now!

Well those who didn't stay awake missed a treat , it was such perfect weather and quite lovely to see. Of course I then couldn't get to sleep and probably managed a couple of hours. Having an H with a health problem means I still have to be up bright and early, however I shall "nod off" on the couch this afternoon.

Well done you night owls. I missed it as sound asleep. I do remember seeing it before though. Twice. It didn't seem all that long ago. It was very striking. The moon suddenly seemed more 3D than usual. It was beautiful.

durhamjen Mon 28-Sept-15 04:24:08

Same here, Tegan. The moon's coming back again now, so I'm off to bed.
Good night to anyone else who's awake.

Tegan Mon 28-Sept-15 03:58:58

Very misty; lucky that it held off till now; hope I can sleep after the copious amount of caffeine I've had shock....

durhamjen Mon 28-Sept-15 03:58:17

It's just a red crescent now. Half an hour and it should be coming back up here.

durhamjen Mon 28-Sept-15 03:55:12

Can you imagine how terrifying it must have been pre electricity. A large scary red moon in the sky.

ffinnochio Mon 28-Sept-15 03:54:36

Back in bed after a very clear sighting. Beautiful sky. Had the added bonus of a few shooting stars. Night all, night owls.

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 28-Sept-15 03:54:22

Can't see a thing now, yet I can see stars in the sky. Going to try and get some sleep now, so good night. moon

durhamjen Mon 28-Sept-15 03:46:03

Must admit, I cannot find it with my camera now.

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 28-Sept-15 03:34:49

I can hardly see it now. I just get little flashes of where it is. It's like an ember that's nearly out here.

durhamjen Mon 28-Sept-15 03:30:24

Strange how much bigger and more solid it seems to appear when it is red.

durhamjen Mon 28-Sept-15 03:27:42

Good heavens, is that the time?
Just seen a small plane go past. Bet they had a good view.
It's freezing out there. The moon is beginning to reappear again. I thought it was never going to go red, but it did eventually. Lucky I was out there when it disappeared, or I would never have known where it was.
Fortunately I am not teaching my grandson today, so I can sleep in.
Hope the photos are okay.

Tegan Mon 28-Sept-15 03:27:33

It's gone quite dull now. Best view is in the back garden but it was more comfortable sitting in the car with a cup of coffee although the street lighting got in the way a bit.

annsixty Mon 28-Sept-15 03:27:10

Good night Wilma

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 28-Sept-15 03:22:04

Good night annsixty The Moon has gone really dark and murky here. Apparently it peaks are 3.47 am, so I am going to try and hang on til then.

Anybody else still here?

annsixty Mon 28-Sept-15 03:16:28

That's it folks. I will try to get some sleep now. If I wake up I will peep to see it come back but I'm not watching any more moon

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 28-Sept-15 02:56:27

Looking through my little binoculars now with just one eye and I can see a spectrum of colours. Nearly there.
