Sparrow Hawks are awesome up close OH got a picture of one that knocked a dove down in our garden then did the same as yours and sat enjoying lunch on the lawn I'll see if I can find the picture and post it..

I do have a photo of the two halves of the poor victims beak! But grizzly though.

Wow! Amazing to watch, if a little gory! We had a sparrowhawk a few weeks ago eating a pigeon in our back garden, like yours not into food waste so only the feathers were left....never did find the beak!

Wonderful to watch, though not much fun for the sparrow. What a shame there is never time or opportunity to get a photo when something like this happens.

If anything gets trapped in your greenhouse again, try going round outside to the far end from the door and looking threatening - bang on the glass even - and he will fly away from you and hopefully get out. I have had birds and bumblebees in mine, and the seem to try to go to the end where the sun shines and ignore an open door.

Gone! He flew away with remains just left the beak and feathers!

whitewave Thu 31-Dec-15 11:32:58

He is incredibly well camouflaged and still there!

whitewave Thu 31-Dec-15 11:15:32

Now he has taken it under a shrub as some seagulls (we think) flew over

DH has just come home and said it is a sparrow hawk not a kestral I did think he was big.

He is still munching away!!

whitewave Thu 31-Dec-15 11:02:10

How can I take a photo without it flashing back on the kitchen window?
If I go outside I will frighten him away

whitewave Thu 31-Dec-15 11:00:24

Good grief he has escaped and is now sitting on the patio having caught a starling.

He doesn't seem to know what to do as he is just sitting with it in his claws.
Oh he is beginning to pluck it!

whitewave Thu 31-Dec-15 10:49:36

Flinging at him through the tiny hole though he is absolutely awesome. Barbed feathers all down his legs. He is sat on the grow bag of herbs at the moment

whitewave Thu 31-Dec-15 10:47:46

Every time he gets a glint of me he panics - now I am worried whether he can find his way out!!!

I tried to wipe a tiny hole in the white Sun screen but phone camera doesn't seem good enough will give it another go

whitewave Thu 31-Dec-15 10:41:42

Well he was flying all over knocking himself so that's why I came away I could try sneaking up

tanith Thu 31-Dec-15 10:40:40

Can you get a pic whitewave? that would be awesome.

whitewave Thu 31-Dec-15 10:39:24

Just went up to the greehouse and there is a kestral in it!!!!!!! I skipped away quickly so as not to frighten him too much and hope he gets out soon
